HomeMy WebLinkAboutEngineer's Report Oct 1970• 40 VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS REPORT OF THE ENGINEER OCTOBER 1970 I. A street light has been ordered for the corner of Simsbury Drive. It will be a 175 watt, 7,000 lumen, mercury vapor light which will cost the Village $45 per year. Its installation is expected.to be'completed about the 1st of November. II. A snow plow similar to and interchangeable with the plow the Village now owns has been purchased. We have also purchased mounting for the Chevrolet truck for this plow. The cost of the plow was $980. The mounting cost $620. The mounting has been installed on the truck and the plow has been delivered to the Village store yard. III. The Public Works General Foreman requested that he be able to purchase a cab and chassis for under the salt spreader if the cab and chassis of the tank truck is not available. He has located such a cab and chassis which he feels will be adequate to provide good reliable service for our salt spreader at a cost of $250. We have not been pressed to discontinue our disposal of digested sludge in the liquid form and by doing so a considerable amount is saved the Village each month. I therefore recommend that the tank truck be kept in service at the Village Sewage Disposal Plant and that the truck suggested by the General Foreman be purchased as soon as possible so that we may mount the salt spreader and be ready for any early snow. IV. Work continues on the removal of diseased elm trees. V. The landscaping of the Roy Park property, after the completion of the installation of the sewer line, has been completed. VI. The Sewage Disposal Plant must continue to operate its grit removal chamber throughout the winter. To do this without freezing it will be necessary to inclose the structure with a building approximately 10' by 10' and 8' high. It will necessary to have some means of heating the inside of this temporary building to prevent freezing. It is proposed to construct a temporary plywood panel type of building that can be dismantled next spring and erected the winter after this if necessary and discarded after the construction of the new plant additions. VII. Sidewalk - Met with Mr. Giordano and inspected sidewalks. Sidewalks have been in two years. Warranty was for one year. After the first year sidewalks were in good condition. Mr. Giordano suggested to do a section of sidewalk by a surface treatment on a no charge basis to see if it would hold over the winter and to see what it would cost to repair sidewalks where it has spalled. Only damage is now on surface and no deeper than 1/8 ". J. B. Rogers Village Engineer
