CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT
Report for October 1970
October shows a total of only three alarms. Two of these alarms were false and
one resulted in minor damage to a sump pump. Average response was 21.7 men per
alarm.
A revised training program has been set up to start in November. This will give
each fireman an opportunity to train 48 times a year, they are required to train
12 times a year.
The general orders have been rewritten to provide for equal response assignments
for both the Fire Protection Contract Districts and the Village.
Fire Prevention Week activity included the distribution of over 5,000 pieces of
literature, posters, etc. These were distributed primarily through the schools
and local banks. There were requests for additional articles so full utilization
was realized. In addition to these activities the Chief entertained over 280
children from the first and second grades of area schools during this week. Each
group was given a tour of the fire station and a short talk on fire prevention
and fire safety by the Chief. The total cost of this program was less than $75.00.
The Fire Council has made some firm suggestions pertaining to the Fire Protection
Contracts with the Towns of Ithaca and Lansing and requests appropriate action by
the Board.
Our new bunker Mike Day has volunteered for the draft and we are actively seeking
a replacement. He expects to leave during the month of November.
Fireman Moravec has completed construction and installation of a basket stretcher
and a mount to hold both the stretcher and a small ladder on the back of Car 1.
