Marcham, Mayor Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Gentlemen: Attached please find the report of Fire Department operations for April 1970. The following listed equipment has been received and is satisfactory. Set of miscellaneous hand tools Folding stretcher Hose jacket Hose clamp Hydrant gate 3 - 21' nozzles with tips 16 pair of boots 16 helmets Used radio base station Used radio mobile unit 40 The three pumpers were inspected and repaired by the American LaFrance service engineer and required only minor repairs and adjustments. Normal preventative maintenance was also done at this time. For the first time in the history of the department two alarms were received at once. This occurred at 7:30 P.M. on April 16th and fortunately there was a department and company officers meeting being held at that moment. Both alarms were answered immediately and in addition we shortly had 18 additional volunteers on the scenes. It should be pointed out that response for the month of April averaged 19.5 men for each of the 11 alarms. This is a great improvement over previous years. Ten of our newest volunteers completed the 36 hour state course in Essentials of Firemanship and were awarded diplomas at the annual banquet on April 7, 1970. Chief Vorhis and myself went to Johnson City to inspect a used American LaFrance "Quad" with the thought in mind to use it to fill the ladder truck requirements of our Village. Because of its age and poor condition we found it inadequate for our needs. With the return of warmer weather the bunkers were able to completely clean and wax all of the apparatus. Under present crowded conditions this is impossible in freezing weather. • On April 17th 40 kindergarten children toured the fire station in two groups and were given a short lecture on fire safety by the Chief. Along the same line 11 children were allowed to tour the station on April 11th which was handled by Bunker Day. On April 22 the annual rabies clinic was held at the fire station. The only complaints were from the dogs presented for treatment. 0 • -2- To make my new duties as Chief a little easier I request approval to purchase the following: a. 5 drawer file cabinet b.
