HomeMy WebLinkAboutEngineer's Report March 1970VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS ENGINEER'S REPORT MARCH 1970 SEWER LINES City of Ithaca Water and Sewer Department has completed the section of 8" sewer line replacement under Dearborn Lane. SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT Tompkins County Department of Health in a letter of March 4, 1970 requested that we obtain a new site for sludge disposal before June 1970. A site has been located which is acceptable to the Tompkins County Department of Health and the owner of which has requested the digested sludge. Requests have been received from this owner prior to this time but because of our old tanker truck, it was impossible to deliver the sludge. The new tanker truck seems adequate to do the job. Tompkins County Department of Health is in the process of issuing us a formal permit and permission to use this site. ADDITIONS TO SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT Test boring is about 90% complete. Additional test holes have been requested by the consulting engineers and authorization has been given to the contractor to proceed with the work. The estimated cost is an additional $300. There is also some additional subsurface exploration needed for the outfall pipe which will lie on the bottom of Cayuga Lake. It is recommended at this time that the Village Board authorize our consulting engineers to design and make part of the sewer plant additions a forced sewer main •that will bring sewage from the area to the west of East Shore Drive. The Village is committed to the installation of such a forced sewer main and the most economic time for the installation of such line is during the construction of the plant alterations and additions. Requests have been received from the Town of Lansing to accept sewage from a 120 unit motel to be built on a site due east of the Howard Johnson Inn in an area which is not now included in a sewer district. The major problem from the Village standpoint is the adequacy of the sewer main within the Village to carry this sewage to the plant. Delbert Grover took the Civil Service Examination for Sewage Treatment Plant Operator and passed the examination with a rating of 77.5. WATER LINES We have received hydrant reports from the City of Ithaca for all fire hydrants located within the Village boundaries. These will be on file in the Clerk's office and available to the Fire Department as well as the engineer's office. STREETS The installation of a larger culvert at 380 The Parkway has been completed except for grading work which will be finished when the frost is out of the ground. •Streets maintenance crew has been busy patching pot holes and with the repair of the snow plow and other equipment. SNOW REMOVAL There has been little requirement for overtime during the past month. There seems to be adequate salt to carry through until the end of the winter season. J. B. Rogers, Village Engineer
