HomeMy WebLinkAboutClerk's Report 6/15/1970• VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS REPORT OF THE CLERK JUNE 15, 1970 May and June are very busy months in this office. May culminates the figures for tax bills which are mailed out the last day and the beginning of the collection in June of the majority of the total amount of taxes amounting to $327,526.25 plus the outside sewer charges of $56,816.50. While the two people in the office are tackling this extra work the usual work continues such as purchase orders, auditing the bills, payroll and monthly reports, minutes, etc. June 1 is a bi- annual date for sending to the Civil Service Commission a payroll on each employee for certification, also a date when form MSD 428 must be sent for each employee for salary increases. May lst I delivered to the Assessment Department in the County all the data they would need to process the tax bills for us. The promised date for the finished bills was May 15th. I received them May 27th and they were mailed May 29th. This was accomplished with Mayor Marcham's approval by calling in Mrs. Rae Nelson for 8 hours to help in the mailing process. Helen and I carefully checked all the bills and except for a few found all in order. We balanced out O.K. It takes just as long to handle the Sewer charge bills of the outside as it does for the Village Taxes since they are about equal in number now. • The delay in receiving the finished bills was due to machine breakdown. I kept in constant check with the Assessment Department. They should do better next year since this is the first year as the County Assessing Department and hopefully they will be better organized next year. During the past month we had many calls, as high as 20 or more a day, regarding trash collection. It seems when the City of Ithaca deviates from their regular collection routine, as they did the Monday after Memorial Day, people in the Village assume it applies to them. During June the month of tax collection without penalty, the office =at be open between 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. I say this because I want two days off, June 25 and 26, since my daughter is getting married the 27th and I need these days at home. I wish to hire WD. Nelson to cover for me or longer if the work load gets behind. Rose M. Tierney Village Clerk •
