Marcham, Mayor Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Gentlemen; Attached please find report of Fire Department operations for June 1970. We had five alarms in June, all of a minor nature. Engine I was given its annual pump test and proved to be satisfactory except for a minor leak in one bleeder valve. Our alerting siren failed on the last day of June and was removed for repairs by Salino Electric. It is now back in service. The cost of repairs is not known at this time. On June 29th the Fire Department assisted the Sewer Department in flushing a sewer line using our reserve engine. The reserve engine (E 3) has been equipped with 2 -way radio by Civil Defense at no cost to the Village. The Cayuga Heights Police Department used the apparatus bays to install their • radio equipment in their new cars. A letter was sent to the new owners of the Petrillose Laundromat advising them of several fire hazards noticed during response to an alarm on June 27th. Assistant Chief K. Powers and 9 other men from the Geneva Fire Department visited our fire station to inspect our newest pumper. (This (E 1) has gained the reputation of being one of the best set up and equipped pumpers in the Central New York Area). The Town of Ithaca was granted permission to use the Company Room for primary day on June 23rd. I have received no information concerning the servicing of hydrants since my mailing of a suggested service plan to the Engineer. Could I please have an answer soon as to what our hydrant service will be in the future? On Monday, June 23rd a productive meeting was held with Trustees Fisher and Anderson, Fred Thomas and myself concerning the new building program. Since that meeting I have received an estimate on sprinklering the present and proposed apparatus room. This would cost approximately $4,000 plus the installation of the 4" water service. The Engineer should have a set of plans ready for the July meeting. The June 18th company drill was held at the Ithaca Fire Training Center with the kind cooperation of Chief Weaver allowing the use of his facilities. • -2- Past Chief Vorhis vacated the apartment the last week in June and Bunkers Day and Barnes assisted by some of the volunteers have painted the rear hallway and •stairway up to the apartment. Resident Day and his bride will occupy the apartment after their forthcoming marriage late in July. We are short one bunker at present and the fire council will accept applications from any single young man you might suggest. 16 new coats were received and are satisfactory. The Fire Council requests approval of the following items for purchase. The money is available in the budget for these items. 100 circular reflective stickers $39.00 ) 100 rectangular reflective stickers 30.00 ) A 3410.5 (to be used to mark equipment) 3 12 inch nozzles 120.00 A 3410.2 6 pair boots 128.70 A 3410.2 4 hand lights, brackets and batteries 60.00 A 3410.2 Remote radio mikes to be mounted on the engines 93.75 A 3410.2 The fire council also recommend that we purchase Ithaca's used 85' aerial ladder. This will be available on delivery of Ithaca's new ladder. Delivery of this is to •be in the summer of 1971. The council requests the Village Board to approve this purchase now so that Chief Weaver can be advised of our intentions and clear it with his Fire Commissioners. Purchase price is $13000.
