ENGINEER'S REPORT
FEBRUARY 1970
SNOW REMOVAL
With the continued snow and cold weather and the need for night plowing, money
budgeted for overtime and for materials, mainly salt, has been exceeded although
the total budgeted amount for snow removal of $9,000 has not yet been reached.
Our main large snow plow blade has been damaged when the blade caught on a manhole
rim which was slightly above the road surface. A plow blade has been borrowed
from the Town of Lansing with the understanding that we can keep it until our
blade is repaired.
SEWER LINES
Because the city was running into excessive costs with deep frost on the replace-
ment of the 6" line in Dearborn Lane, by mutual agreement the city ceased their
operation and the Village will undertake the replacement of the rest of the 6"
line as soon as the frost is out of the ground.
SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
Bids were received on February 6th for subsurface soil exploration from Rochester
Drilling Company and for Empire Soils. Rochester Drilling Company is the apparent
low bidder. Our engineers Teetor- Dobbins have worked with both companies and
recommends that we accept the bid of the Rochester Drilling Company. The specifi-
cations for the drilling contract call for them to start operations within 5 days
• after the award of the bid. Clearance has been obtained from Mr. Liberman for
this drilling in slightly different location than originally planned.
STORM DRAINAGE
30" culvert under Triphammer Road in front of the Locke property has been installed.
Difficulty was encountered because of the distance between the gas line and the
water line was less than 30" required for the culvert. Present difficulty was
encountered because in marking out the water lines the city marked the main but
did not mark location of a service connection. This connection was broken during
excavation causing flooding of the area. The City Water Department who takes
care of all our sewer lines and charges us for their work determined it was
necessary to construct a shut -off manhole at the location of this service
connection. Because of the time involved in building this manhole the completion
of the backfill and opening of Triphammer Road has been delayed. The cost of
replacing this culvert will be high, over $1,000.
WATER LINES
Instructions have been given to the City to run tests on the fire hydrants that
are spelled out in the Fire Underwriter's Report as being deficient. They have
also been requested to send us copies of all our fire hydrant reports.
STREETS
Efforts have been made to locate and clear catch basins where drainage problems
from melting snow have occurred. In areas where streams run parallel to roads
such as on Klinewoods Road the slush and sediment washed down by the melting
snow have caused drainage difficulties.

Maintenance and operation costs on Village equipment are being kept by the new
Public Works Superintendent. The Engineer and the Treasurer have met to try to
determine an efficient but effective form and procedure for doing the cost
accounting.
VILLAGE HALL
The Engineer met with Mario Guidi of Guidi Construction Company and was assured
by him that he would make every effort to repair the roof, wall and floor of the
main hall where leak damage occurred and to complete the job by February 24th,
the date of our Annual Meeting. It was explained to him that no payment could
be made to him until all Waiver of Liens from subcontractors were submitted to
and approved by the Village Attorney.
