REPORT OF ENGINEER
August 17, 1970
I. A request for formal Board action to change the address of the house and lot
on the Village maps as 300 Winthrop Drive to 101 Burleigh Drive. The address
of 300 Winthrop Drive was placed on this lot before Burleigh Drive was con-
structed. Because of the stream flowing across the property, the house was
built facing Burleigh Drive and therefore should have a Burleigh Drive address.
II. Work has started on the removal of dead and diseased elm trees as laid out
by the Village Tree Warden. A second contractor has been assigned a number
of the trees. If his work and prices are satisfactory he will be assigned
others. The Village work force also has and will remove some of the smaller
trees that do not require special skills. In addition to the removal of elm
trees we are proceeding to remove dead or unhealthly trees of other varieties
as pointed out by the Tree Warden.

III. New refuse collection/ went into effect August 10, 1970. Radio announcements,
articles in the newspaper, and a mimeographed handout to each of the property
owners were made in an effort to acquaint everybody with the new schedule.
IV. Patching of the streets with hand spraying of asphalt and spreading of stone
started the week of August 3rd. This was done in preparation for the road
surfacing that wi" be carried out the mid part of August.
A request has been made by Mr. William Kerr, attorney for Mrs. Stephens,
property owner at 107 Hillside Drive. The storm water drain from Iroquois
•
Road goes under Highland Road and discharges water onto the Wallace property
which then flows onto the Stephens property. Ina n investigation of this last
year it was my determination that it, was private property and this was in
fact a normal course for the water to follow during rainstorms. Nothing has
been done by the Village during my tenure with the Village to change or alter
the course or flow of water in this area.
V. Two additional bids have been received for additional lighting in the Clerk's
Office of the Village Hall. A bid of $590 has been received from Towner Electric.
Cortright Electric bid is due before the August 17th meeting. It is recommended
bid be awarded to the lowest responsible bidder at the August 17th meeting.
VI. Permission is requested for Mr. Robert Tyrrell to attend Public Works School
October 28, 29, and 30 at Cornell University. It is an annual program put
on by the Agricultural Engineering School. The cost to the Villago would be
for a nominal registration fee and the cost of meals at a few luncheon meetings.
Total cost would not exceed $20.
VII. The used Dodge 4 x 4 Power Wagon is now in good operating condition. A rebuilt
motor was purchased for $60, $48 was spent on additional parts and the labor
was provided by our work force. It is anticipated to equip this 4 -wheel drive
vehicle with a snow plow for plowing intersections, Village Fire Station and
Village Hall parking lot.
