HomeMy WebLinkAboutClerk's Report 8/17/1970VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS REPORT OF CLERK August 17, 1970 The program dealing with the control of diseased elm trees has been the most time consuming this month and will continue at a slower pace until spring. Dr. Pimentel made a survey of the diseased elm trees both on Village property and private property. The trees were marked on a tax map, showing the diameter and probable location. From this map a list was made of the owners, number of trees, sizes and location. Between 275 and 300 letters were mailed to property owners. Telephone calls average about 10 a day with walk -ins averaging two or three a day, all with questions such as, "I don't know which tree ", "Could the Tree Warden point it out to me? ", or "I don't have any trees, they must be on someone else ", etc. Dr. Pimentel has made many calls back to check on the exact location of trees and since he doesn't know the exact boundaries of properties has changed the original list often. I am happy to say we have had very good response on the removal so far, of course, at this point those who are slow in removing the trees will • not be noticed. Another item which Mr. Rogers may report but concerns this office is the rerouting of the refuse collection. We arranged the schedule from a map which the Engineer worked out in colored pencils for the different routes and days. After this was mimeographed for delivering we notified both radio stations and the Ithaca Journal to advertise this fact for us. I am prepared for many telephone calls with questions concerning individual problems. We collected $10,702.41 in taxes and sewer charges in July with a penalty charge of 5% or $535.12. We still have $28,683.51 to be collected. Overtime paid in the month of July was for sewer stoppages and a wire down at the sewer plant during the storm of July 18th. Overtime was paid as follows: Cornelius - 2 hours - $12.54 Garvin - 4 hours - 17.88 Grover - 8 hours - 39.76 0 Rose M. Tierney Village Clerk
