FIRE DEPARTMENT
February 24, 1970
.40* TO: Mayor F. G. Marcham, Board of Trustees and Village Residents
FROM: Richard A. Vorhis, Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Annual Report of the Fire Department
in compliance with the laws governing the Fire Department, I have the honor to
submit the Annual Report of the operations of the Fire Department of Cayuga
Heights for the year ending December 31, 1969-
The Department answered a total of 53 alarms for the year, a decrease of
13 alarms for 1968. The calls were 27 for the Village and 26 for the Fire
Protection Districts which includes three mutual aid calls and one for a false
alarm.
The fire losses were: Village - $5,000
Fire Protection Districts - $63000
The major fires were: Village - 108 Midway Road
Fire Protection Districts - Dean's Upholstery,
31 Sapsuckerwoods Road
• The number of calls were:
Fire Protection
Village District
Residential 7 6
Misc. - assist police, false alarms, etc. 12 6
Mercantile 3 2
Grass Fires 3 4
Car fires and accidents 2 8
Total 59 27 2C-
The number of equipment responses were: Car 1 - 49
Engine 1 - 22
Engine 2 - 37
In June 1969 a new 3/4 ton pickup truck chassis was delivered to replace the
emergency car. A utility box was attached to make carrying equipment easier
and more accessible for use. This has proven to be very worthwhile to the
department.
Present membership of the Company totals 59 active members and 300 associate
members. Ten members resigned or were dropped because they moved away from the
Village or Fire District.
It is my sincere hope that this coming year will be a safe one for the residents
of the Village and the Fire Protection Districts.
I thank you on behalf of the Department for your continued support and under-
standing of our needs and although I will not be the Chief for the coming year,
I know the department will make every effort to provide the best fire protection
available.
