Engineer's Report
for May 12, 1969
I. Sewer Line Infiltration
A heavy rain of over an inch in a 24 -hour period which occurred two weeks ago
recorded flows on the meters installed in manholes to indicate infiltration in the
Town of Ithaca in that area that is connected to the Hanshaw Road sewer main. The
meter on the line coming in from the Town of Lansing indicated that there was little
or no infiltration from that area. Other meters indicated a general infiltration
of small amounts over a wide area of the Village.
II. Sewage Treatment Plant Additions
On May 1st Teetor - Dobbins filed plans with the State in compliance with the
due date required by them. A copy of these plans are at the Village Office for
your inspection. The cost of the plant is estimated at $1.5 million. The cost to
each individual "user ", if it were assumed that the same rate would be paid by users
inside and outside the Village as would be the case if the plant were operated by
a County Sewer Agency, is estimated at $47 per year. This cost is estimated by the
engineers to decrease to $14 per year over a ten year period.
III. Streets
A washout of shoulder on Klinewoods Road was replaced by the New York State
• Electric and Gas Company after a severe rainstorm. The washout occurred in the
area that was excavated by the New York State Electric and Gas for replacement of
a gas line. This same storm caused blockage of a driveway culvert on the east side
of Hanshaw Road causing the water to flow over the road and because there is no
road ditch on the west side of the road the water flowed over the lands of Professor
Dalman at 506 Hanshaw Road.
Street patching and shoulder work was held to a minimum but potholes are filled
as they occur.
Work on the streets was held to a minimum to allow concentration on the
completion of the grading for the sidewalk on North Triphammer Road.
The used road grader has been delivered and will be a most useful machine in
our shoulder and ditch work.
IV. Sidewalks
About one half of the grading has been completed on the Triphammer road
sidewalks.
V. Carriage House Fire Hydrant
Arrangements have been made with the New York Telephone Company for a right
of way over their property and with Mr. Glover for a right of way over the Carriage
• House property for the installation of a water line from Pleasant Grove Road to in
back of the Carriage House Apartments. It is hoped that we can proceed with this
work immediately so that we may complete it before the landscape contract of the
Telephone Company is completed.

VI. Supervisor of Public Works
The job has been turned down by one very good prospect. Two additional
prospects are being interviewed and discussions about the job have been held with
Mr. Hurlbut, County Personnel Officer.
VII. Street Opening Permits
During the month of April one street opening permit was issued to the New York
Telephone Company on Simsbury Drive for the installation of underground telephone
cables.
