ENGINEER'S REPORT
for December 8, 1969
I. New Village Hall
Village work force moved the Police Department furniture into the new Village Hall
on October 24, 25 and 26. On November 28 and on December 1 the Village work force
moved the Clerk's Office to the new Village Hall. At the rear of the new Village
Hall extension of drainage line from downspouts, concreting of cellar windows,
removal of old stone patio, and fill and leveling for new concrete slab has been
completed. Also an underground conduit from the telephone pole to the basement
was installed for the police aerial cable.
A second list of items yet to be completed by the contractor was submitted to him
on November 26.
II. Sewage Disposal Plant
On November 14 the Engineer met with Dr. Dobbins of Teetor - Dobbins and Professor
Gates. A description of the layout for the new secondary treatment and the phosphate
removal treatment for the Sewage Disposal Plant was described by Dr. Dobbins. A
system of overflow weirs and recirculation of water flow along with some other added
features will make it possible in Dr. Dobbins' estimate to operate the plant to meet
State standards without having 24 hour or weekend personnel present. This will
mean a significant saving in our operation costs. Professor Gates also expressed
approval of Dr. Dobbins' general plans.
III. Excavation by a private contractor to install a private house lateral uncovered
a break in a 10 -inch main on North Sunset Drive. The replacement of this faulty
• 10 -inch line will be corrected as soon as possible.
IV. Leaves and brush removal
Work on leaf removal continues. Progress in this area was slowed by the use of the
Village workmen for moving and for other work around the new Village Hall as well
as the fact that we had men on vacation (opening of deer season). The completion
of the leaf removal should be completed by the middle of December.
V. Snow Removal
The Bombardier snow plow has been returned and should be ready for the first heavy
snowfall. Repair on the hydraulic lines has been completed on our large streets
snowplow and it is ready for operation. Our salt spreader has been in operation
a number of times already this winter and seems to be in good operating condition.
VI. Road Opening Permits
During the month of October and November seven road opening permits were issued.
All but two of these were issued to the New York State Electric and Gas Corp. for
the installation of new gas mains or the repair of gas mains. The most extensive
excavation was on Sheldon Road where some four to five hundred feet of gas main
was replaced.
VII. Roads
Request from four residents to change mailing address on a small road off Triphammer
• 'load from Triphammer Road to Triphammer Lane.
VIII. Water Lines
The city is scheduled to take a hydrant test on the fire hydrant at the end of North
Triphammer Road near the Lansing line the week of December 1. Results to be reported
to the Engineer, hopefully to be available at the December 8 meeting.
