Minutes 7/29/2004Minutes of Special Meeting of the Board July 29, 2004 Village of Cayuga Heights Board of Trustees Present: Mayor Lynn, Trustees Staley, Mount and McNeil, Clerk Manning. Absent: Trustee Antil, Collyer, Tavelli. At 4:35 pm, Mayor Lynn called the meeting to order. The Mayor explained that the purpose of this meeting was to approve the recommendation by Police Chief Lansing to hire James Manning to fill the newly created position of police officer. Chief Lansing then explained the process that was used to interview for this position. Five out of seven part -time employees interviewed for this position. Chief Lansing, Sergeant Boyce, and Senior Officer Steinmetz interviewed the candidates separately. The Chief distributed a sample of some of the questions that were used during the interview. The interviews went very well and the Chief was pleased with the whole process. All of the candidates interviewed were well qualified, with 3 -1/2 to 17 years experience. After the interviews, Chief Lansing, Sergeant Boyce and Officer Steinmetz sat down together and discussed their opinions on the candidates. The decision to hire Officer Manning was unanimous. Officer Manning has worked as a Tompkins County Deputy for 3 -1/2 years. He is young, conscientious, and enthusiastic about his job and will be an asset to the Village police department. Motion by Trustee Mount Seconded by Trustee McNeil Move to pass Resolution 6092 as follows: Whereas the Village Trustees identified the need to fill a full -time vacancy within the Police Department, and Whereas the position was posted and internal candidates were given an opportunity to interview for the position, and Whereas 5 of the 7 current part -time officers chose to apply, and Whereas the Chief of Police, Sergeant Boyce, and Senior Officer James Steinmetz conducted the interviews; selected James Pagel of 2 w Manning as their proposed candidate and recommended him to the Board, Upon consideration of the Police Chief's recommendation, therefore, It is hereby resolved that the Trustees of the Village of Cayuga Heights authorize the Police Chief to hire James Manning as the additional officer for the Cayuga Heights Police Department. Trustees Staley, Mount, and McNeil voted YES. Motion by Trustee McNeil Seconded by Trustee Mount Move to adjourn the meeting at 5:00. Trustees Staley, Mount, and McNeil voted YES.
