Re: Report of the Police Department for June 2004
For the month of June there were a total of 109 complaints reported to the police department and 3 motor
vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 21 traffic tickets issued and 4 parking tickets written.
During June there were no felony complaints. There were eight misdemeanors reported: one for Issuing a
Bad Check, five for Petit Larceny and two for Criminal Mischief. The bad check case was closed with the
restitution paid in full. Three of the petit larcenies were reported when customers pumped gasoline into
their vehicles and left without paying. In two of the cases, the customers were contacted and returned to
pay. The 3'd customer could not be located with the vehicle plate number obtained by the employee. A
resident reported a political sign taken from her yard. The final petit larceny was the theft of a child's
wagon from a resident's yard. One of the criminal mischief complaints was the report of damage to a
vehicle. The complainant believed that her vehicle was scratched by an unknown object while the vehicle:
was parked in her driveway. The second criminal mischief case was a reported by a resident when the two
reflector posts at the end of her driveway had been pulled from the ground and the reflectors broken. An
aggravated harassment case pending from last month was resolved. The youth responsible for making the
annoying phone calls was found due to successful traces and came to this department with a parent. The
youth was advised by the officer of the ramifications of his actions. The youth was very sorry and made an
apology to the complainant. The complainant was satisfied by this and the case was closed. There were
five violations reported for the month of June: four for Disorderly Conduct and one for Harassment. Three .
of the disorderly conducts were reports of loud music or noise. In all incidents, the subject responsible was
contacted and agreed to turn off the music or stop the noise. The fourth disorderly conduct occurred when
a subject became unruly in a store, swearing and causing a disturbance. The subject was advised that he
was not allowed back in the store or on the store property and that he would be arrested if he did. A
resident reported that she had received a harassing phone call. She was advised that she had won a
certificate from a local chain store and to call an 800 number to claim it. The complainant called the
number which had nothing to do with the store. The complainant also contacted the local store here and
was advised that they were not doing any promotions. The complainant was advised to keep track of
anymore calls of this nature. There were six Village Ordinance complaints: a request for a solicitor's
permit and five dog control complaints. Two of the dog cases were resolved while arrests were made in the
other cases. One dog owner was issued an appearance ticket for court for her dog habitually barking and
annoying others. The owner had been previously advised by this department about the barking problem.
The other 2 dog cases involved the same dog. The owner was issued 2 appearance tickets for court for
letting his dog run loose and one appearance ticket for destruction of another's property. There were no
vehicle and traffic complaints. There were ninety miscellaneous complaints handled by this department
for the month of June.
During the month of June, Officer Steinmetz with the assistance of Officer Wright held the annual bicycle
rodeo at the Northeast School. Bicycle safety was taught in the classroom the first day, and the next day
was spent outside using the rules in a course set up by the officers. Each student was given a certificate by
this department for participating. Officer Lanning held DARE graduations at the Northeast School and at
Cayuga Heights School.
The full time officers worked 46 hours of overtime and the part -time officers worked 181.5 hours. There
was a total of $338 reported lost or stolen and S312 in property recovered for the month of June.
