Re: Report of the Police Department for May 2004
For the month of May there were a total of 87 complaints reported to the police department and 5 motor
vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 89 traffic tickets issued and 24 parking tickets written.
During May there was one felony complaint, Grand Larceny. A female reported that a male acquaintance
shoved her and then forcibly stole the necklace that she was wearing. The male subject then continued to
yell at her. The 29 year old male was arrested for Grand Larceny, Harassment and Disorderly Conduct.
There were ten misdemeanors reported: one for Issuing a Bad Check, four for Petit Larceny, one for
Criminal Mischief, two for Aggravated Harassment, one for Criminal Tampering and one for the
Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The bad check case was closed with the restitution paid in full.
Two of the petit larceny reports were complaints that customers pumped gasoline into their vehicles and
left without paying. In both cases, the customers were contacted and returned to pay. A residence reported
that his cell phone was missing and believed it was taken from his apartment while he was gone for the
overnight. The final petit larceny was the report of a purse stolen from a parked vehicle. The criminal
mischief complaint was when a resident reported that eggs had been thrown at a second floor window of
the house. There did not appear to be any damage to the window. One aggravated harassment complaint
consisted of a residence receiving an unwanted phone call on her answering machine. The resident stated
that this contact has been going on for over 2 years by emails and now the phone call. The resident has
never responded to the subject who was a classmate of hers in high school. At this time, the resident did
not want the police department to speak with the subject but wanted these incidents to be on record. The
other aggravated harassment case is the report of receiving prank phone calls for the past month. The
complainant was advised of the *57 method and did obtain numerous successful traces. As the number
responsible originated from a Sprint PCS Cellular subscriber, a subpoena was issued by the DA's office to
obtain the phone number and the owner of the phone. The investigation is currently ongoing. The
criminal tampering case was reported by a resident who discovered that someone had written obscene
remarks in the dirt on her garage door. A resident reported that a vehicle was in the ditch near his house
and the driver had left the scene. After an investigation, it was found that the owner of the vehicle had not
given the driver permission to use it. The driver, an 18 year old male, was arrested for unauthorized use of
a motor vehicle. There were four violation complaints, all for disorderly conduct, reported for the month of
May. All the cases were noise complaints, either loud music or loud voices. In all incidents, the persons
responsible were contacted and the situation resolved. There were four Village Ordinance complaints: two
concerning solicitors and two for dogs muting loose. There were five Vehicle and Traffic complaints: one
for parking, three miscellaneous complaints and one for Driving While Intoxicated which resulted in an
arrest of a 43 year old female. There were sixty-three miscellaneous complaints handled by this department
for the month of May.
The full time officers worked 95 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 163 hours. There was
a total of $1,045 reported lost or stolen and $295 in property recovered for the month May.
