There were a total of 55 traffic tickets issued and 12 parking tickets written. During April there was one felony complaint: an incident of Identity Theft. The complainant was made aware of this when he was contacted by a cell phone company that his bill, a large sum of money, was over due. He advised the company that he never owned a cell phone. The company had his name and social security number but the bills were being mailed to a New York City address. The complainant stated that his wallet had been stolen during the summer of 2002. There were six misdemeanors reported: one for Issuing a Bad Check and five for Petit Larceny. The bad check case was closed with the restitution paid in full. Two of the petit larceny reports were complaints that customers pumped gasoline into their vehicles and left without paying. In both cases, the customers were contacted and returned to pay. A resident reported that an item was taken from his shed. While on patrol, an officer observed 2 village street signs missing. The final petit larceny was reported when a business owner found that money was missing from her cash drawer. She felt that it was possibly a previous employee that still had a key. The complainant was going to change her locks and did not want the matter pursued but just to be on record. There were four violation complaints reported for the month of April: two for Disorderly Conduct, one for Unlawful Trespass and one for Possession of Alcohol under 21 years of age. One disorderly conduct was the report of loud music being played. The person responsible was contacted and there were no further problems. The other disorderly conduct complaint was reported when a female stated that a group of males were throwing frisbies and balls across the roadway. The complainant stated that she walks by the group each day and that the last time one of the subjects kicked a volleyball hitting her in the arm. The complainant was not injured but wanted die subjects warned about their actions. The trespass complaint was the report of youths skateboarding on the roof of the Cayuga Heights School. Both of the youths were transported home by the officer and the parents were notified of the situation. The officer responded to a parking complaint and found that a party was in progress at a residence involving under age drinking. There was no adult present. Most of the subjects attending the party left upon arrival of the officer. The teen was hosting the party at her father's home while he was out of town. The teen's mother was contacted by the officer, advised of the situation and responded to pick up her daughter. The father was called and also notified of what had taken place. There were four Village Ordinance complaints: two concerning solicitors and two for barking dogs. There was one miscellaneous Vehicle and Traffic complaint. There were seventy-nine miscellaneous complaints handled by this department for the month of April. In April the full time officers attended their semi - annual mandated handgun qualifications. In addition they also had a 2 day basic patrol rifle training as required for the department's transition for the use of patrol rifles. This training was taught by Sgt Boyce and Officer Steinmetz, the department firearms instructors. Officer Lanning attended the annual DARE conference which was held in Saratoga Springs. The falitime officers attended a one day terrorists informational training hosted by the Tompkins County Sheriff Department. The full time officers worked 126 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 153 hours. There was a total of $368 reported lost or stolen and $148 in property recovered for the month of April. /S' rely, Kenneth W. Lansing Chief CAYUGA HEIGHTS POLICE DEPT.
