HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of the Fire Department for Feb 2004March 8, 2004 CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT 194 Pleasant Grove Road Ithaca, NY 14850 (607) 257 -2377 Honorable Walter Lynn, Mayor Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Monthly Report — February, 2004 Our call total for February 2004 was 36. We ran 19 EMS calls, 15 fire calls and 2 mutual aid calls. There were no major incidents for the month. We were split pretty evenly between EMS and Fire calls. We worked with a couple of the soroities in our district who were having problems with their alarm systems this past month and seem to have resolved most of the difficulties. We had 19 calls in the Village, 15 calls in the Town of Ithaca and went Mutual Aid to Ithaca twice. Our new recruits have started their training. We have had two classes so far and of the original fifteen who expressed interest we had thirteen show up for the first day of training. They are a motivated group and many of them have already signed up for the required state classes and are moving forward with their checklists to get off of their probation as soon as they can. We are pleased with the progress we have made with these folks and they are fitting in well among the membership. At the Company meeting on March 8`h we voted as a company to move ahead and purchase new uniforms for the membership. We will be going with a more formal uniform at this time. We have decided as a company that we would like to look more formal at special occasions. These uniforms will be purchased with funds from the fire company except for jackets for the officers of the department. The fire company approved a bylaw change for the change in term length for the Fire Chiefs position. Our annual elections will be held on April 6'h. The Annual Fire Department Banquet and Installation of Officers will be April 17th. We took receipt of our Thermal Imaging Camera from Fire Flir last week. We will set up a time in the near future to demonstrate this new piece of equipment to the Village Board. We had bid opening for the ladder truck on March 8`h and are currently reviewing the bids. We received bids from five vendors. One vendor declined to bid. The committee was pleased with a couple of the bids we received. We have ordered a new multi -gas detector for our first out engine to replace the detector that is now 18 years old. "HELP PREVENT FIRES" The fire trucks are all in good working order at this time. Our bunker rooms are all full, the bunkers are performing their duties and the station is looking good. We received a bid for replacement of the back door of the station and are seeking a second estimate.
