From: Report of the Police Department for December 2003
For the month of December there were a total of 79 complaints reported to the police department and 5
motor vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 46 traffic tickets issued and 5 parking tickets
written.
During December there were no felony complaints. There were five misdemeanors reported: two for Petit
Larceny, one for Criminal Mischief and two for Aggravated Harassment. One larceny was reported when a
customer pumped gasoline into his vehicle and left without paying. The customer was contacted and
returned to pay. The second larceny was the theft of street signs. The subjects had taken signs from other
areas outside the village also. The subjects responsible for the thefts were found and the property returned.
The criminal mischief complaint was the report by a resident that his mailbox had been damaged by an
unknown subject. One aggravated harassment case was reported when a customer of a business left a
threatening message on the answering machine. The owner of the business did not want the subject
arrested but to have the police department contact her about it. The subject was contacted and advised that
the business would not tolerate such messages and that she would be arrested if it happened again. The
subject realized how foolish she had been and that she had Ieft the message out of frustration. The other
aggravated harassment case was reported when a resident kept receiving email messages from a family
member that Ire did not want any contact with. This has been an ongoing problem. The subject was
contacted and advised to stop all communications. In addition to closing these two aggravated harassment
cases, a pending case from November was also resolved. During December there were no violation
complaints reported. There were seven village ordinance complaints: one solicitor permit request, one for
open burning and five for dogs mating loose or barking complaints. There were three vehicle and traffic
complaints: two for Driving While Intoxicated and one for a parking problem. A 67 year old male and a 29
year old male were arrested for driving while intoxicated. There were 64 miscellaneous complaints
handled by the police department for the month of December.
The full time officers worked 58 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 212.5 hours. There
was a total of S 1 I reported lost or stolen and S 11 in property recovered for the month of December.
Sinc ly,
