HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of the Fire Department for Dec 2003CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT 194 Pleasant Grove Road Ithaca, NY 14850 (607) 257 -2377 2004 Honorable Walter Lynn, Mayor Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Monthly Report — December, 2003 The volunteers of the Cayuga Heights Fire Department finished strong this year. For the month of December we had 38 calls. This means we finished 2003 with a total of 492 calls. This is an increase from last year of fifty incidents. We had 25 EMS calls, 9 fire calls, 3 mutual aid and one lockout call.. Our mutual aid responses included two responses to Lansing and one to assist Varna. There were 24 runs in the Village of Cayuga Heights and 11 in the Town of Ithaca. We have started our spring recruiting drive. We have many interested candidates for our spring class. We will be accepting applications and voting in our new members at our February monthly meeting. Again we have a nice mix of permanent residents and students interested in volunteering with our department. We look forward to more positive results from our recruit training program. Assistant Chief Marshall Stocker is to be commended for his dedication to our recruiting efforts. Several of the capital projects that we had planned for this year are moving forward. We have put together a bid spec for the Plymovent System for the fire station. This system will bring us into OSHA compliance for air quality in the station. We are also planing to have a Thermal Imaging Camera demonstration at the fire station in the very near future. The TIC camera we will have at the station for demonstration is the one we are hoping to purchase. We will make sure that we get the demonstration date out as soon as we have it for all who would like to attend the demonstration. Assistant Chief Mariano Garcia is working toward getting the station paging system on line. Our bunkers are all well at this time. LT Tim McNamara graduated from Cornell in December and moved away from the area. We had one open room that was filled by Firefighter Nathaniel Cisne. He is very excited about being our latest bunker. The station looks good and the bunkers have divided up their responsibilities. I did a walkthrough inspection of the bunker area last week and found everything satisfactory. "HELP PREVENT FIRES" We are working on several projects at the officer level at this time. These projects include revamping our SOPS, the replacement of Ladder 231, continuing our strong push at training and several other projects. We have come a long way in the past year and appreciate all the support we have received from the village government. We look forward to another good year. Sincerely, Vol V,f Geor a Tamborelle Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent EMERGENCY CALLS: TOTAL CALLS YEAR TO DATE: 492 Total Calls — 3 Fire Calls — 9 EMS Calls - 25 Total Mutual Aid — 3 Lansing - 2 Varna - 1 Calls in the Village — 24 Calls in the Town — 11 TRAUNING / MEETINGS / EVENTS: 12/06 - Recruit Class IV 12/07 - Company Meeting 12/11 -Police and Crime Scene Safety Training with Dave Lanning 12/17 - EMS Training 1/6 - Search Training 1/24 - Car Fire Training UPCOMING EVENTS: 1129 - EMS and Fire walk through of Kendal, Planning for the major incident 219 - Company meeting 2111 - Building searches around the district or Road Rally 2/18 - EMS 2121 - Burn tower training- skills, and simulations 2/26 - School walk through preparing for the hidden dangers and hard to find hiding spots APPARATUS: All trucks are working well.
