From: Report of the Police Department for November 2003
For the month of November there were a total of 61 complaints reported to the police department and 7
motor vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 54 traffic tickets issued and 6 parking tickets
written.
During November there were no felony complaints. There were eight misdemeanors reported: one for
Issuing a Bad Check, two for Petit Larceny, three for Criminal Mischief and two for Aggravated
Harassment. The bad check case was resolved with the restitution paid in full. A pending bad check case
from October was also closed with the restitution paid. One larceny was reported with a customer pumped
gasoline into his vehicle and left without paying. The subject was contacted and returned to pay. A
resident of Kendal reported numerous personal items taken from her residence over a period of time. The
case is still under investigation. A resident reported that the rear window of his vehicle had been shattered
sometime during the overnight. During this same time, numerous other cases had been reported in the town
and county. It appeared that the damage had been done by an unknown subject shooting an air gun with
bb's. The second criminal mischief case reported was that a smile face had been sprayed painted on a
resident's chimney with black paint. The final criminal mischief case reported was damage done to the rear
window of a vehicle. The vehicle's door had been left open and the glove box had been gone through.
Nothing was found to be missing from the vehicle. Both aggravated harassment cases are still pending.
One case was the report of obscene phone calls left on the answering machine in an office at Kendal. The
second case involved a subject receiving harassing calls on her cell phone. There were two violations
reported for the month of November: one for Disorderly Conduct and One for Harassment. The disorderly
conduct was the report of loud music being played. The subject responsible was advised of the complaint
and the music was turned off. The harassment complaint was the result of a family problem. The incident
was resolved at that time and both parties involved were advised to obtain legal counsel to avoid the same
type of problems in the future. There were three village ordinance complaints: one for a dog running loose,
one for being in Sunset Park After Hours and the other for Illegal Dumping. Two subjects were observed
standing near the stone wall in the center of Sunset Park. The 22 year old male and 21 year old male were
both issued appearance tickets for court. A business owner reported that a subject had put items in the
dumpster without permission. The case is still under investigation. There were three vehicle and traffic
complaints: one for Driving While Intoxicated and two miscellaneous complaints. The officer responded
for a report of a vehicle with damage that was in the ditch. The officer arrested the driver, a 23 year old
female, for driving while intoxicated. There were forty-five miscellaneous complaints handled by the
police department for the month of November.
Sgt. Boyce and Officer Steinmetz attended a one day Glock Armorer School held at Ithaca College for
instruction in repairing the on duty weapons. Officer Wright assisted Corning Police Academy in teaching
Defensive Tactics for two days.
The full time officers worked 110.5 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 182.5 hours.
There was a total of $778 reported loss or stolen and a total of $85 in property recovered for the month of
November.
