Honorable Walter Lynn, Mayor
Board of Trustees
Village of Cayuga Heights
Monthly Report — November, 2003
We slowed down a bit in the month of November. Our run total for the month was 39
calls. This is a small decrease from the past several months. We had 23 EMS calls, 3
Motor Vehicle Crash's and 13 fire calls. We went Mutual Aid to Lansing twice in the
month of November. There were 22 calls in the Village of Cayuga Heights and 15 in the
Town of Ithaca. Our total for the year to date is 481.
The Recruit Class that we started in September has now completed their in house
training. Most have met the Basic Firefighter requirements and are planning on taking
the Intermediate Firefighter class being offered soon in Cortland County. This group
- - - " - " - " - -" "continues to be very motivated and they have become anintegral "parrof the fire
department in the few short months they have been members. We are very pleased with
the results of the Recruit Training Program and after the fast of the year will be starting
the planning for our spring 2004 Recruit Drive and class.
As always our in house training program is a top priority. We have had several very
good trainings in the past couple of months. We did a scenario based extrication training
in which several dummies were used to simulate victims and our members had to think
quickly to complete the drill in a timely manner. We also did a ventilation training in
which our members fired up the saws and cut through plywood covered pallets that are
meant to simulate a roof structure. Asst. Chief Steve Philips and Lt. Josh Weissman have
been working hard to establish a comprehensive continuing training program.
Our members continue to take many state class' to fill their spare time. Seven of us just
completed the Hazmat First Responders Operations class offered here in Tompkins
County and we have three members enrolled in the Principals of Fire Investigation class
that is currently running in Cortland County.
"HELP PREVENT FIRES"
We have started to revise some of the department SOP's. At this time we are working on
updating our vehicle response policy to come in line with the NFPA Vehicle Response
Policy. We will be working towards revising the department SOP's this spring to update
them.
One of our bunkers, Lt. Tim McNamara, is graduating from Cornell in December and
will be leaving the area. This will leave one of our bunkrooms available. We have
started to look for an eligible candidate to move into this open room.
Sincerely,
V
Gege Tamborelle
Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent
