TO: BOARD OF TRUSTEES FROM: Brent A. Cross, Village Engineer RE: Village Hall Entrance REPORT: In the winter time, snow and ice falls off from the upper roof of the Village Hall. The snow /ice flow lands on the sidewalk near the front entrance door. This is a dangerous situation and needs to be addressed. A few years ago, Judge Galbreath applied for a grant that included handicapped accessibility in the main lobby of the Village Hall. At that time I prepared a preliminary drawing (attached) for him that included a new canopy over the sidewalk leading to the front door. Since the Judges application did not result in any funds for the accessibility project, no work was done. Since the DPW was required to put up snowfice protection garage roof, it was a reminder that we need to address this same issue at the Village Hall. Since the Village Hall-gets more public visitors than the DPW, it is probably even more important to get this done before there is an accident. I have contacted a dozen of the local contractors that do work in the Village and found that most of them are too busy to look at it until February or later. So far I have given the drawings to three of the contractors and hope to have at least two written quotes before the Trustee meeting. I anticipate that the bids will come in under $5,000. The Treasurer has confirmed that the $15,000 estimate for the original HCP project is still reserved in the capital budget Therefore, I am requesting approval of the following resolution: RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE VILLAGE ENGINEER TO CONTRACT FOR ' NEW VILLAGE HALL ENTRANCE CANOPY. Whereas, the Village is concerned for the safety of the employees and public visitors to the Village Hall due to ice /snow falling off from the roof, and Whereas, the Village Engineer has prepared plans for a new canopy over the entrance door, and received at least two written quotes for such work, and now Therefore, the Village of Cayuga Heights Board of Trustees hereby authorizes the Village Engineer to enter into a contract for amount not to exceed $5,000, to construct a new canopy over the entrance at the Village Hall, 836 Hanshaw Road.
