September 18, 2003
TO: BOARD OF TRUSTEES
FROM: Ed Quick, Working Supervisor
PERIOD: August 2003
REPORT BY DEPARTMENT:
1. PUBLIC WORKS
a. Street System: We used the paver on Triphammer, East Upland, and
Sheldon roads. I think it was a great investment and will save money and
a lot of time in the future. We also had the lines striped and the
crosswalks painted. We used the Hot Patch Machine on several roads.
We had to replace a section of sidewalk on Triphammer Rd. which was
ripped out by a tree when we had the storm on July 21", and a section on
Winthrop which was in bad shape.
b. Storm Water System: We have put in drainage pipe and installed catch
basins at a couple of village residents' properties. We have cleaned
ditches in several sections of the village. Bad drainage is the major reason
the roads break up.
c. Water System: We replaced a water valve on a 12" water main on West
Remington Road.
d. Sewer System: We had 31 UFPO's, and 2 sewer inspections in August. In
the next year or so we should start thinking of replacing some old sewer
lines in the village. Some are in real bad shape, collapsing, cracked, with a
lot of infiltration. I have videos of several sewer lines.
e. Solid Waste: The brush has been all cleaned up and now we are going by
the new rules adopted by the DPW committee. A lot of village residents
are following the new rules. It's going to take some time, but I think it's
going to work.
f. Equipment: DPW Fuel Consumption for the month: Gas = 379.50
Diesel = 668.70
g. Buildings and Grounds: We installed a new oil and water pit, for the
drainage in the garage.
h. Personnel: I am requesting permission from the Board to make some
personnel changes. There is an open Sr. MEO position. I would like to
move a present MEO into the Sr. MEO position and move a present
Laborer into the MEO position. This would leave the Laborer position
open, therefore, I would like to fill that position immediately. I will
discuss with the Board the individuals involved with these changes.
