From: Report of the Police Department for April 2003
For the month of April there were a total of 94 complaints reported to the police department and 2 motor
vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 124 traffic tickets issued and 21 parking tickets
written.
During April there were no felony complaints. There were twelve misdemeanors reported: two for Issuing
Bad Checks, six for Petit Larceny, three for Criminal Mischief and one for Arson. Both of the bad check
cases plus a case reported in March, have been resolved with the restitutions paid in full. Three of the
larcenies were reported when subjects pumped gasoline into their vehicles and left without paying. In two
of the cases, a correct plate number was obtained from the vehicle, the subjects contacted and returned to
pay. A street sign and post were reported stolen from a village street. A resident reported that his garbage
can was taken from his front yard. The final larceny was a report of shoplifting. Upon doing inventory,
the store personnel realized that an item, which had not been sold, was missing. Upon viewing the store
tapes, the theft was observed. The subject responsible was identified by the employee. A search warrant
was obtained, the item found in his home and the subject was arrested. Two of the criminal mischief
complaints were reported when residents discovered that their homes had been shot with a paint ball gun.
The final criminal mischief was the report of graffiti painted on a concrete wall and on the bus stop on N.
Triphammer Rd. The final misdemeanor was a report of arson which occurred when someone attempted to
bum a pile of papers in front of the mailboxes and the curtain in the stairwell of an apartment building.
There were eight violations reported for the month of April: Six for Disorderly Conduct, one for
Harassment and one for Unlawful Trespass. Five of the disorderly conducts-were reports of loud music
being played. In all incidents the persons responsible were contacted and there were no further problems.
The final disorderly conduct was the report of eggs thrown at an apartment building near the main entrance.
A subject reported a harassment incident between himself and his girlfriend. At this time, he did not want
an arrest made but to have the complaint on file with the police department. The unlawful trespass was
reported when a resident of an apartment building observed a male sitting on the fire escape staircase.
Upon arrival of the officer, the subject had left the area. The officer followed the subject's footsteps in the
snow to a parking lot on another street but was unable to locate him. There were four Village Ordinance
complaints. Two dealt with soliciting permits and one complaint involved unlawful posting of signs. A
dog complaint resulted in the owner of the dog being issued an appearance ticket for court. There were
four Vehicle and Traffic complaints reported: one for parking, two for miscellaneous traffic problems and
one for Driving While Intoxicated which resulted in the arrest of a 33 year old male. There were sixty -six
miscellaneous complaints handled by this department for the month of April.
