Lansing Chief of Police April 11, 2003 To: The Honorable Walter Lynn Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights From: Report of the Police Department for March 2003 For the month of March there were a total of 98 complaints reported to the police department and 11 motor vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 100 traffic tickets issued and 18 parking tickets written. During March there were no felony complaints. There were eleven misdemeanors reported: three for Issuing Bad Checks, seven for Petit Larceny and one for Criminal Mischief. Two of the bad check cases have been resolved with the restitution paid in full. Three of the larcenies were the reports that evergreen trees had been cut and removed from the homeowners' property. Two of the larcenies were the theft of Christmas tree lights taken from the homeowners' fences. All five of these thefts occurred over the same time period. Cornell University Fratemity and Affairs were notified of these complaints in case they received any reports of the same activity happening. A resident reported that the light from the pole at the end of his driveway had been removed. The final larceny was reported when a subject pumped gasoline into his vehicle and left without paying. The person responsible was not located. The criminal mischief case was the report of a driveway light damaged by an unknown person. There were eight violations reported during the month of March: seven for Disorderly Conduct and one for Unlawful Trespass. Three of the disorderly conduct complaints were reports of loud music being played. In all cases the persons responsible were contacted and there were no further problems. Two of the complaints dealt with loud parties. In both incidents the persons bolding the party were advised that the party was over. With one of the complaints, there was also a parking problem. Numerous vehicles were issued parking tickets and one vehicle was towed. A business owner reported that some patrons had refused to pay the bill and were loud and noisy disturbing the other customers. Upon arrival of the officer, the patrons were quietly paying the bill with no further problems. The final disorderly conduct complaint involved a juvenile at the Cayuga Heights School who has behavior problems and was causing a disturbance. The situation was resolved. The unlawful trespass involved an employee of Kendal who was having personal problems with her husband. The husband came to Kendal and was argumentative causing a disturbance. The husband was requested to leave by a supervisor but was never seen leaving. Mier a search of the building, the husband was located at his residence. The husband was advised by the officer that this type of behavior was not to take place again and that ]re must notify a supervisor when Ire entered the building or his actions would result in an arrest for trespass. The subject agreed and there have been no further reported incidents. There was one Village Ordinance complaint dealing with a dog running loose. The owner of the dog was notified of the problem. There was one Vehicle and Traffic complaint reported which involved a parking . problem. There were seventy -seven miscellaneous complaints handled by this department for the month of March. During the month of March Sgt Boyce and Officer Steinmetz attended a 2 day Amorer School for Ruger patrol rifles which are going to be carried in each patrol car. Officer Steinmetz also attended a 4 day Commercial Vehicle School for traffic enforcement. Officer fanning and myself participated in a one day seminar put on by the US Secret Service on threat assessment for public schools. The full time officers worked 115.5 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 145 hours.
