HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of the Fire Department for March 2003CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT 194 Pleasant Grove Road Ithaca, NY 14850 (607) 257 -2377 96 Honorable Walter Lynn, Mayor Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Monthly Report — March, 2003 o/ Your volunteer firefighters responded to 42 emergency calls during the month of March. This brings our year to date total to 143. Our calls were evenly split between fire and EMS and we responded to eight mutual aid calls including a working structure fire in Lansing. One of our firefighters received minor injuries at the fire but was evaluated and cleared on scene. There was some excitement in the Village as well. On March 10, we responded to a car accident on North Triphammer Road involving 2 cars and a TCAT bus, and luckily, there were only minor injuries. On March 30'x, we were dispatched for a kitchen fire in an apartment building and our first arriving engine was able to quickly control the situation. As always, we have been busy training. We held in -house trainings on child abuse and ventilation. During our driver rodeo FF Mike Miroiu, FF Greg Tremblay and AC George Tamborelle were certified on several engines and the ladder truck. On April 6' our new recruits had a fun day and got to see their first smoke and fire at the burn tower. We have several trainings scheduled for the rest of the month including a vehicle extrication lab with Comell's EMT class. Fire Department elections were held on April 1" and the results are listed on the next page. With the approval of this board, these officers will be sworn in at our annual banquet. As a reminder the banquet will be held at the Country Club of Ithaca on Saturday April 12' , at 6pm. Outgoing company president and vice president Lauren Putnam and Bruce Derrick have been working on the banquet around the clock to ensure it is a success. On a personal note, I would like to thank the Village Board for the opportunity to serve as Fire Chief. This has been an interesting and exciting position. The Fire Department has accomplished quite a lot in the past 6 months and I look forward to continuing my service as an Assistant Chief. Sincerely,G % rr Jov n Pique Fire Chief I Fire Superintendent V6/03 "HELP PREVENT FIRES" EMERGENCY CALLS: TOTAL CALLS YEAR TO DATE: 143 Total Calls - 42 Fire Calls - 22 EMS Calls - 20 Total Mutual Aid - 8 Ithaca - 5 Airport - 2 Lansing - 1 Calls in the Village - 21 Calls in the Town - 13 TRAINING / MEETINGS / EVENTS: 03/21- Cub Scout Demo - Given by FF John Putnam, FF Mike Miroiu, FF Alex Traina 03/19 - Fire Training - Ventilation 03/27 - Rescue Training - Child Abuse Documentation 03/29 - Driver Rodeo - 3 Drivers Certified 04/01- Company Meeting 04105 - Mutual Aid to Wayne County for Ice Storm (13 Calls in 24 hours) 04/06 - Recruit Class III - Burn Tower 04/09 - Rescue Training 04/12 - CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT BANQUET 04/16 - Fire Training 04116 - Extrication Training for Cornell EMT Class 04/24 - Fire Training 05/04 - Recruit Class IV 05106 - Fire Training 05/09 - Demo Q NE Elementary School 05/14 - Company Meeting 05115 - Fire Council APPARATUS: 231- Is at Sullivan's in Elmira for numerous repairs. 204 - We are in the process of selling the engine.
