Honorable Walter Lynn, Mayor
Board of Trustees
Village of Cayuga Heights
Monthly Report — February, 2003
February was another busy month for the volunteers of the Cayuga Heights Fire Department. We
responded to 43 emergency calls this month bringing our year to date total to 101 calls. There
were 17 fire calls and 26 EMS runs. We stayed close to home this month, only responding mutual
aid once to Ithaca and once to Lansing. We received several carbon monoxide calls this month
and are in the process of choosing a new CO detector for 202.
The Recruit Class continues to improve in their skills and knowledge. The second day of training
was held at the station and included among other topics, EMS and response safety. As a bonus the
Village Justice stopped by and after thanking the members for what they do, explained some of the
legal ramifications of responding. Next month the new members will spend a day at the Ithaca
Burn Tower for hands -on equipment training. We have also amassed three cars that will be used
for extrication training.
Thanks to the efforts of FF Vince Savath, FF Greg Tremblay and FF Nathaniel Cisne, our web
page is better than ever. If you have a minute please take a look at www.chfd.net. I highly
recommend the Frequently Asked Questions and the Pictures sections. Come back often as these
three firefighters are always updating this page.
Next month is April which means it is once again time for the Cayuga Heights Fire Department
Banquet. This year the banquet will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 6pm to IOpm at the
Country Club of Ithaca. The banquet will begin with a cocktail hour and complimentary open bar.
Dinner and an awards ceremony will follow. We look forward to seeing you all there.
Sincerely
oT n Pique
Fire Chief / Fire Superintendent

be held at the Ithaca Burn Tower and will really give the new members a chance for some hands

APPARATUS:
204 — We are beginning the process of selling this engine.
231 — The outriggers on the ladder truck are disintegrating. As a result the truck is currently out of
service as a ladder and is running as an engine only. Next week the truck will go to Sullivan's
where the outriggers will be removed and shipped to the original manufacturer for repair. The
entire process is expected to cost $8,000.
All other vehicles are running smoothly.
The slate for next year's officers has been posted at the station. Elections will take place at the
Company Meeting on Tuesday April Pt. The slate will then be approved by Fire Council and
brought before the Village Board at the April Meeting.
STATION:
The Ithaca Garden Club held a meeting at the Firehouse on March 12u'. They discussed their
plans for the garden and will presenting their plan to the Village Board at the April Meeting.
From the sounds of it, the garden will be a welcome addition to the station landscape.
