HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of the Clerk March 2003.pdfReport of the Clerk Things are busy in the Clerk’s office. Beverly Besemer, our Account Clerk since 1985, will be retiring at the end of March. Beverly is currently out on leave until her retirement. We wish Beverly much luck and happiness in her retirement and I am sure you will all miss her helpfulness both on the phone and in person when you come into the Village Hall. We are in the process of recruiting for another person to work in the office with me. The Village Elections will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 from noon to 9:00 pm at the Village Hall. This year there will be three Trustee positions open. At this time, all of the candidates are running unopposed. Trustees Ann Antil, Frank Collyer and Roy Staley are running for re-election. There are a total of six Trustees on the Village Board of Trustees and each serves a two-year term. I encourage all Village residents to vote and participate in our local government. A few reminders – Our office is located on the second floor of Marcham Hall. For those residents who have difficulty with the stairs, there is a telephone in the hall on the first floor. Please dial the number listed by the phone, and we will be happy to come down and help you. If you have a question about garbage pickup, please call the Dept. of Public Works at 257-6166 directly and they will be happy to help you out. If you have a question about recycling, please call Tompkins County Solid Waste at 273-6632. The Village does not pick up recycling. Garbage tags can be purchased at the Village Hall AND at Tops on North Triphammer Road and P & C in the Cayuga Mall. We accept cash and checks only…no credit cards. Presently those stores are only selling the 15 lb tags but we are trying to work out a plan for them to also sell the 6 lb tags. It may seem like a long way off, but remember that June is Village tax time. Bills will be mailed out on May 31 and your tax payments should be made by June 30, by mail or by bringing that payment directly to the Village office. Payments made July 1 – July 30 are considered late and will be subject to a 5% penalty. Payments made between August 1 and August 31 will have 6% added and another 1% will be added per month thereafter. If the payment is not made by November 1, 2003, by law the unpaid taxes are turned back to the county for relevy and will no longer be accepted a the Village office. Payment may be made by check or cash, but we do not accept credit cards or monthly payments. Please pay on a timely basis and avoid penalties. We will be including an updated Village Informational Brochure along with a garbage, recycling, and holiday schedule with your tax bill. If you do not receive one, please either give us a call or stop by the office to pick one up. And finally, if there is anything we in the Village office can do to help you, please do not hesitate to call. Norma R. Manning Clerk
