CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT 194 Pleasant Grove Road Ithaca, NY 14850 (607) 257 -2377 Honorable Walter Lynn, Mayor Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Monthly Report- October, 2002 During the Month of October, the Cayuga Heights Fire Department responded to twenty- one medical emergencies and sixteen fire related calls. Of the calls, eleven were in the Town of Ithaca and nineteen were in the Village. The fire department also provided mutual aid assistance seven times during the month. The Cayuga Heights Fire Department received no mutual aid assistance. The fire department responded to seven mutual aid calls, five calls were to the City of Ithaca and two were to Lansing. Personnel arrived at the =a and received a report from Cayuga Heights Polictilat a dryer belt had broken/malled. Thebuilding was evacuated and CHFD investigated. The interior crew verged theeonditiom No fuawasfound in the dud work The tenant was instructed not to use the dryer until it was serviced. The dryer was left unplugged. Parsnmel arrived at the scene and found the patient in One care of Bangs ambulance personnel. CHFD stood by until released by Bangs. All patient rare was handled by Bangs. CHFD lad no patient contact Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel were called to standby for Ithaca Faro Department, at their Central Station, while one of thew ladder trucks was out of service and the o0ur was in Interlaken for a fire. " CO detector activation due to I1 Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel responded to the above location for a report oft carbon monoxide detector activation. The occupant reported a carbon monoxide detaclor activation in the living room. The detector was a nighthawk KN -COPP3 with an AC power plug Thu readings were between 200.300ppm. Firefighters checked the roan with CHFD hand -held meter, but only got readings of 0 -lppm. CHFD compared the readings ofhh hand -held meter, the nighthawk, and a third carbon monoxide detector owned by the occupant. Only the nighthawk detector reported high carbon monoxide levels. It was concluded that the nighthawk detector use faulty. CHFD reebeeked all rooms at various elevations with the CHFD hand-held detector but still obtained 0 -1ppm readings. The occupant denied any headache, nausea or other carbon monoxide posoning symptoms. The occupant was advised to all 911 ifshe had any other problems.
