Cross, Superintendent of Public Works PERIOD: 11/1/02 through 11/30/02 REPORT BY DEPARTMENT: A. VILLAGE ENGINEER - 1. PUBLIC WORKS Office Hours 9 A.M. - 4 P.M. a. Street System: The paving has been completed on all of the streets that were part of this year's schedule. The total length of the road segments that were paved this year is about 1.5 miles. This is longer than the plan of 1 mile per year. Unfortunately, with the overrun on the thickness of asphalt that was being laid, it was a compounding factor in the total amount of asphalt that was planned to be used. I have analyzed the bill for the asphalt work and, determined that the part of the cost due to the added thickness amounts to approximately $40,000. Some other projects that cause the asphalt bill to overrun were the paving of the floor in the new salt barn and the paving of the DPW yard. These two items amount to approximately $36,000 and will be transferred to the DPW account. b. Storm Water System: no report. c. Water System: no report. d. Sewer System: no report e. Solid Waste: Garbage collected for this month was tons. Leaf pickup had been going well until about the middle of the month. First of all, the leaves carne down very late this year, which means that there were still a lot of them on the ground when we got the seasonally early snowfall. In addition, one of the vacuum machines had a mechanical failure that resulted in not being able to continue to use it for this year. In the meantime, the DPW crew is still out picking up the leaves as best as they can using shovels, loaders and dump trucks. f. Equipment: DPW Fuel Consumption for this month: Gas = 520.20 gallons Diesel = 585.80 gallons g. Buildings and Grounds: The fence along the top of the embankment at the DPW yard has been installed to help screen and control the activities of the DPW that can be viewed from the Pleasant Grove Lane neighbors.
