From: Report of the Police Department for June 2002
For the month of June there were a total of 106 complaints reported to the police department and 4 motor
vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 60 traffic tickets issued and 15 parking tickets written.
During June there were two felony complaints reported: one for Burglary and one for an attempted
Burglary. A store owner reported that sometime during the night a door to his business was forced open
and entry made. The cash register drawer was missing with approximately $40 in assorted bills and coins.
An attempted burglary was reported at a residential home. An unknown suspect(s) had broken out a small
pane of glass in a door in an attempt to reach in and turn the lock. Entry into the home was not gained.
Both cases are still open. There were seven misdemeanors reported to this department: two for Issuing
Bad Checks, one for Petit Larceny, three for Aggravated Harassment and one for Criminal Contempt. The
petit larceny was the result of a subject pumping gasoline into his vehicle and leaving without paying. The
subject was contacted and returned to pay. A resident reported receiving a phone call from an unknown
subject who spoke in Spanish and then switched to English using profanity. Another resident reported
receiving numerous hang -up calls in a row with background noise that sounded like a party was taking
place. Both residents were advised to attempt a trace of the calls using the *57 method and to contact
CHPD if the problems continued. As of this date, no further complaints have been received from either
resident. The third aggravated harassment was the report of an ex- husband's present girlfriend calling the
complainant at work with annoying and alarming calls. The complainant wanted the girlfriend only warned
at this time to cease the calls. The girlfriend was advised of the complaint and warned that if this
continued, she would be arrested. No further action was needed. The Criminal Contempt case occurred
when a resident reported that she has an order of protection against her husband and that he was now at her
home. The subject was located at the home and arrested for criminal contempt for violating that order.
There were three violations reported, all for Disorderly Conduct. Two of these were for loud parties and in
both cases it was agreed to keep the noise level down and there were no further complaints. The third was
a noise complaint of a loud engine or motor, but the noise stopped and the source was not found. There
were four complaints involving Village Ordinances: one for Dog Control, one for being in the Park After
Hours, one for Curfew and one for an Open Container of Alcohol. A complainant reported that he had
been bitten by a dog. Charges are presently pending for the subject responsible for the dog. A large group
of people were still in the park after hours. The group was advised that the park was closed and everyone
left the area without a problem. The curfew ordinance violation occurred when three youths were observed
walking in the Village after 10:00PM. All youths were transported to their home and the parent advised.
No further action was needed. A subject was observed in Sunset Park with an open container of alcohol.
He was issued an appearance ticket for court. There was one miscellaneous Vehicle & Traffic complaint
reported. The driver of the vehicle was under age and had taken the vehicle without her parent's
permission. The driver and the vehicle were returned home. The parent did not want any charges pressed.
A Petit Larceny case reported in May involving a missing village entrance sign was closed as the item was
recovered. There were eighty-nine miscellaneous complaints handled by this department for the month of
June.
The DARE graduations were held in Cayuga Heights School and Northeast School during June. The
bicycle rodeo was held at the Northeast School with classroom instruction on one day and the obstacle
course held the next.
During the month of June the full time officers worked 90 hours of overtime and the part -time officers
worked 205 hours. There was a total of $219 in property reported lost or stolen with a total of $112,194
recovered in the month of June. $112,000 of the property recovered was the locating of 2 vehicles which
had been reported stolen by other Police Departments.
