HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of the Fire Department for May 2002CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT 194 Pleasant Grove Road Ithaca, NY 14850 (607) 257 -2377 Honorable Walter Lynn, Mayor Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Monthly Report-May, 2002 During the Month of May, the Cayuga Heights Fire Department responded to twenty -one medical emergencies and twenty -two fire related calls. Of the calls, fifteen were in the Town of Ithaca and twenty -five were in the Village. The fire department also provided mutual aid assistance three times during the month. The Cayuga Heights Fire Department received no mutual aid assistance. On May 13`h a series of storms passed thru the area. As a result of these storms the Cayuga Heights Fire Department responded to ten calls for water in residences basements. All calls were handled by us, as well as standing by for Ithaca during the storms. The fire department responded to three mutual aid calls, two to Lansing and one to Ithaca. Engine 204 (formally 203) has returned from having its pump recertified. While out for pump testing it received some much needed maintenance and repairs. The call was cancelled by Bangs ambulance before CHFD crew lea the station. 000157.00 051012002 11:36 WARREN ROAD -7 " — "' False unintentional 11 Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel were ailed for a smoke dctector activation, in the maintenance building, at the above location. Personnel arrived at the sane and investigated BOCES staff reported that the activation was caused by welding in the garage area and #263 confirmed this. BOLES stalf will be on fire watch with the alarm off until the work is finished and will all dispatch wben the work is completed and the alarm is back in service. 000158.00 05/03/2002 01:18 PLEASANT GROVE ROAD hazardous condition 16 Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel were ailed to assist CHPD investigate an overturned vehicle (on its side) at the above location Personnel arrived at the sane, searched the woods on both sides of the roadway, and were unable to find the occupant(s) of the vehicle. CHFD stood by and directed traffic while photographs were taken and Fingerlakes wrecher removed the vehicle. 00015900 051032002 08:57 WARREN ROAD EMS only 6 [PCR #4. 8041297) Cayuga Heights Fire/EMS personnel responded to an emergency medial all at the above location for a possible Cardiovascular accident (smoke). Personnel arrived at the scene and found an elderly female (D.O.B. t t) in the care of Bangs ambulance. Personnel arrived at the sane and found an adult male patient sated in a car, confused and complaining of dizziness. Lea facial drooping was noted. Personnel arrived at the sane and found the patientin the arc of Comes University EMS who took control of the scene. Patient care was handled by Bangs ambulance personnel with CHFD assisting at the sane and enroute to the hospital. 000164 -00 05/09/2002 08:24 WARREN ROAD 1 EMS only 6 [PCR #4 - 80413211 Cayuga Heights Fire/EMS personnel responded to an emergency medial all at the above location Personnel arrived at the scene and found an elderly male [D.O.B. 10 -26 -221 in the are of Bangs ambulance personnel, complaining of fainting and weakness. All patient arc handled by Bangs ambulance who transported the patient to Cayuga Medical Center. 000165.00 05/092002 14:09 WYCKOFF AVENUE False unintentional 13 Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel responded to a Ina alarm activation at the above location Personnel arrived at the sane and found the residents had evacuated the building prior to arrival. Personnel arrived at the sane and found a male patient ID.O,B. 11 complaining of lower (lumbar) back pain History and asseaanrnt were done. SALEM EMS only II IPCR #4. 80413241 Cayuga Heights Fire/EMS personnel responded to an emergency medical call at the above location. Personnel arrived al the scene and found a middle -age male patient (ID.O.B. I in the back of n NYS police vehicle complaining of a laceration over the left orbit. The patient reported going off the road and hitting a um to avoid hitting another vehicle. The airbag deployed and caused his glasses to cut his forehead. History and assessment were done and the patient refused medical care and transportation and signed a CNY EMS Patient Refusal Form. 000171 -00 05112/2002 23:50 BRIARWOOD DRIVE "'- Good intent call 12 Cayuga heights FirclEMS personnel responded to the above location If" a carbon monoxide detector activation. Personnel investigated and found no problems. It was determined to be a faulty detector. IPCR 04.8041316] The family and child (D.O.B. canplained of chronic nausea over the past few weeks. The child had been seers in the hospital for nausea - undiagnosed etiology. History and assessment were done. Medical care and transportation were refused because carbon monoxide reading were not elevated. A CNY EMS Patient Refusal Form was signed by the parents. 000172 -00 05/1312002 22:39 PLEASANT GROVE. ROAD Hazardous condition 16 Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel responded to a hazardous condition at the above location. Persortel arrived at the scene, investigated, and found a strong odor of gasoline and a kissing noise. Personne found flood conditions in the basement with a spilled gas an The hissing noise was from a water leak.NYSEG was contacted and pinned the gas and shut off the electricity. The residents were told to evacuate for the night and leave windows open for ventilation. NYSEG will handle gadwater pumping and utilities reactivation in the morning. 000173 -00 05/1311001 03:23 COMSTOCK ROAD EMS only 3 IPCR #4. 80413121 Cayuga Heights Fire/EMS persornel responded to an emergency medical all at the above location reporting a patient with back pain. Personnel arrived at the scene and found an elderly female in bed, oriented to name only. Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel found approximately two fat of water in the backyard and patio against the rear of the house. Personnel set up portable pumps and removed most of the wider. The residents used their own pumps to continue water removal. 000176 -00 05/1312002 15:41 HANSHAW ROAD --' "' Hazardous condition 30 Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel were dispatched by Fire Control for flooding in the basement at the above location Personnel found Approximately one foot of water in the basement and approximately four feet of water against the back door. The system was busy and no CHFD units were available to respond immediately. The resident called dispatch back and advised them that they had the situation under control and did not want CHFD to respond anymore. 000179 -00 05/1312002 15:52 TRIPHAMMER ROAD Service call 30 Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel responded to the above location, investigated, and found approximately three feet of water in the basement CHFD disconnected the appropriate electric breakers and shut off the gas supply to the hearse. A wrecker removed the car and CHFD engine #202 was cleared 000181 -00 051134002 16;37 SIMSBURY DRIVE Service call 30 Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel were called to the above location for a water problem Personnel arrived at the scene, investigated, and found one inch of water on the floor in the basemen. Personnel set up an electrical pump and left the pump with the resident 000184-00 05/134002 18:59 HANSHAW ROAD Servi=all 30 Cayuga Heights Fire Department personnel responded to the above location fora report of water in the basement Persamel arrived at the sane and found that the water in the basement had already been removed The resident war worried about the drainage ditch in the Bud yard CHFD advised the resident to call the Town of Ithaca Highway Department. CHFD shut off the gas to the f imace and trot water healer as a precaution and advised the resident to contact NYSEG. No elevation in carbon monoxide levels were found (1.2ppm in all arcs of the house).
