From: Report of the Police Department for November 2001
For the month of November there were a total of 81 complaints reported to the police department and 7
motor vehicle accidents. There were a total of 33 traffic tickets issued and 9 parking tickets written.
During November there were no felony complaints. There were seven misdemeanor complaints reported to
this department: three for Petit Larceny and four for Criminal Mischief. One larceny was the report of
Ithaca Journal tubes and posts taken from in front of 2 residents. A vehicle parked in A -Lot had both
license plates removed. The last larceny was the report that a subject had pumped gasoline into his vehicle
and left without paying. The attendant did not obtain a plate number from the vehicle so the person
responsible could be identified and contacted to pay. Two of the Criminal Mischief complaints involved
damage to the glass in bus shelters. A subject had shot a BB gun damaging a pane of glass at the shelter at
A -Lot. The floodlights by the Kendal sign had been pulled out and thrown through the glass at the bus
shelter by the Kendal entrance on N. Triphammer Rd. Numerous mailboxes along the 2000 block of N.
Triphammer Rd. had been knocked off their posts and damaged. The final Criminal Mischief case was
reported when it was discovered that graffiti had been written with different colors of paint on the center
stone wall in Sunset Park. There were two violations reported during the month of December: one for
Disorderly Conduct and one for Harassment. The Disorderly Conduct was a report of loud music. The
person responsible was contacted and agreed to turn the music down. A female reported that a former
boyfriend had harassed her. She refused to give his name or any further information but wanted the
complaint on file. There were three complaints involving Village dinances: one for a barking dog, one
for a subject soliciting without a pemrit and one for a subject requesting a permit. There were eight
Vehicle and Traffic complaints: three for parking problems, one for an abandoned vehicle, one for leaving
the scene of a motor vehicle accident and three miscellaneous traffic infractions. There were sixty-one
miscellaneous complaints handled by this department for the month of November. Also during November
a pending Rape case was closed with the arrest of a 20- year -old male.
In November all officers were at the range completing the required semi - annual firearms qualifications.
Officer Day attended a one -day seminar held at Tompkins Cortland Community College dealing with
weather related emergencies. All officers attended a computer training update for the cad system in the
vehicles. Officers Lansing and Steinmetz also attended a county training on the cad system. All patrol
cars have had the computer updated with the new software. Officer Lanning attended a program held in
Buffalo about school safety.
During the month of November the full time officers worked 92.5 hours of overtime and the part-time
officers worked 213.5 hours. There was a total of $170.00 in property reported lost or stolen during the
month of November.
