From: Report of the Police Department for October 2001
For the month of November there were a total of 116 complaints reported to the police department and 10
motor vehicle accidents. There were a total of 75 traffic tickets issued and 18 parking tickets written.
During November there were two felony complaints reported: one for Rape and one for Forgery. The
investigations are continuing in both cases with arrests pending. There were fourteen misdemeanor
complaints reported to this department: eight for Petit Larceny and six for Criminal Mischief. Two of the
larcenies occurred at Kendal, an employee and one of the residents reported cash missing. The front grill
was taken from a parked vehicle while another subject reported the spoiler was taken off of the trunk of her
vehicle. A bicycle was taken from the playground at Cayuga Heights School, a lamp was reported missing
from an apartment and signs were stolen from Jessup Field. The final Petit Larceny was the report of a
subject pumping gasoline into his vehicle and forgetting to pay. The subject was contacted and returned to
do so. Six of the Criminal Mischief complaints were reported damage to windows by unknown subject(s)
with a pellet gun. Three of the complainants reported windows in their homes broken while two of the
complainants had vehicle windows shot out. The final Criminal Mischief was reported when a subject
discovered that someone had taken a key and scratched the side of his vehicle while it was parked. There
were seven violations reported for the month of October: six for Disorderly Conduct and one for
Harassment. Five of the Disorderly Conducts were reports of loud music or noise. All complaints were
resolved and no further action by the police department was needed. One of the Disorderly Conducts was
reported when 3 subjects were arguing loudly outside of an apartment building. They all agreed to end the
conversation. There were three complaints involving Village Ordinances: one was a request for a solicitor's
permit and two were dog complaints. One dog complaint resulted in the owner being issued an appearance
ticket for court as her dog did attack another dog resulting in injuries. There were three Vehicle and Traffic
complaints: one for a parking problem, one for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and one
miscellaneous traffic infraction. There were eighty-seven miscellaneous complaints handled by this
department for the month of October. One pending Petit Larceny case reported in September was closed
with an arrest of a 36- year -old female.
During October Officer Steinmetz attended a five -day Firearms Select Rifle Instructor School sponsored by
IPD. Sgt. Boyce and Officer Day attended a one -day seminar dealing with immigration issues. Officer
Lansing did a presentation about Halloween safety at Cayuga Heights School and Northeast School. Once
again extra patrols were in force for Halloween night to ensure that there were no problems.
During the month of October the full time officers worked 114.5 hours of overtime and the part-time
officers worked 122 hours. There was a total of $1,500 in property reported lost or stolen during the month
of October and a total of $10 in property recovered.
