June 1, 2001
Honorable Ronald Anderson, Mayor
Board of Trustees
Village of Cayuga Heights
Report for the Month of May, 2001
During the Month of May, the Cayuga Heights Fire Department responded to twenty
medical emergencies and fifteen fire related calls. The fire department also provided
mutual aid assistance four times during the month. The Cayuga Heights Fire Department
received no mutual aid assistance during the month. Of the calls, fifteen were in the
Town of Ithaca and sixteen were in the Village.
On May 180', four members attended the Lancaster County Fire Expo in Harrisburg, Pa.
The Expo is one of the largest displays of fire equipment on the East Coast. The Expo
provided an opportunity for our members to see the latest in fire fighting and EMS
technology.
On June 6h, Brent Cross and myself met with Robert Mitchell of Ross & Mitchell
Architects. We reviewed the present outstanding punch list regarding the fire station.
Shortly members will be establishing a detailed punch list to be given to Crista
Construction.
I met with a representative from Air Cleaning Systems regarding a vehicle exhaust
removal system for the fire station. I will be reviewing this system with the Board. I will
be asking permission to proceed with this important project.
Norma Manning and myself met with Steve Kman from All -mode regarding the new
telephone system for the fire station. I will be presenting a detailed quote of the system
for the Boards review. I would like permission from the Board to proceed with this
telephone project.
In the coming months, the fire department will be conducting a campaign to recruit
additional bunkers and members. At the present time we house six permanent bunkers.
It's our goal to bring this number up by the start of the school year. In late May, Channel
7 News did a news story on the volunteers at the fire station and the need for additional
bunkers. The Department and Fire Company will be working jointly on the project to
increase our membership.
"HELP PREVENT FIRES"
The new engine is still scheduled for an approximate delivery date of June 30d. We are
in the process of ordering new equipment to place on the vehicle.
Sincerely,
/Rc') bert D. Day
Chief
