CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT
March 31,2001
Honorable Ronald Anderson, Mayor
Members of the Village Board
Village of Cayuga Heights
Subject: Monthly Report for March 2001
During the month of March the fire department responded to forty -two
emergency calls. 15 calls were EMS calls, and 27 were Fire related calls.
The fire department provided mutual aid six times to area departments
during the month. We called for mutual aide twice during the month of
March. We traveled four times to the City of Ithaca fire department and
twice to Lansing. Members provided a total of 290.29 hours of emergency
service to the community. We had well over 100 hours of either inter
department training and classes that members attended either in the county
or surrounding counties.
The Fire Departments calls were all fairly routine this month most Fire
related calls were activated smoke detectors ranging from burnt food to
just system malfunctions. We did have one smoke condition when we
arrived on scene and found a bad motor on the furnace.
Ladder 231 has been taken out of service in definitely, I have been told
that it will be gone for at least a month maybe longer. Sullivans has
inspected the truck and found a serious situation with the ladder making it
unusable. They have reported to me that there is a corrosion problem with
the truck and it's wiring along with leaky valves that control the ladder.
They are still looking at the truck and have not contacted me as of yet.
Engine 202 also went down for a day, this was a result of the "freeze up"
we had back a few months ago. Apparently thy missed a crack in another
valve. This was discovered during a training class.
As of today I have not heard anything from Wayne Tyler or anyone from
Pierce fire Truck Company. This concerns me as I stated at the meeting
where the bid was awarded. We have not a good working relationship
with Wayne Tyler in the past in terms of service of the vehicles after we
have purchased them. As I stated above I have had no contact from the
company and I am wondering if anyone has received the bid bond, which
by contract was due, I believe 15 days after the sign contract.
