Report of the Police Department for January 1990
The Police Department handled 76 complaints dnd investigated 12
motor vehicle accidents during the month. There were 87 traffic
tickets issued and 24 parking tickets issued during the month.
There were three felony complaints: one for grand larceny, one
for burglary and one for an attempt to commit the crime of burglary.
There were thirteen misdemeanor complaints: six for criminal
mischief, four for bad checks, two for petit larceny and one for
aggravated harassment. There were sixty miscellaneous complaints
investigated by the Police Department.
One persorP was arrested for criminal possession of a forged
instrument as a felony. He was brought back to Ithaca on a
Village of Cayuga Heights Arrest Warrant from Buffalo, N.Y.
Due to the Harris murders in Ellis Hollow, there was a dramatic
increase in the installation of burglar alarms in the Village.
Many residents also requested security checks of their homes and
looked to the Police Department for suggestions and ideas for
improved security measures in their every day living. This also
increased the suspicious persons calls for the month which caused
us.to use increased movement around the Village in the marked
patrol.car giving a higher visibility rate. Nine new burglar alarms
were installed in the Village alone and fortunately all these,
alarms have fire alarms added which go directly to Tompkins County
Emergency Control.
There was a total of $5,969.83 in property reported lost or stolen
during the month and $267.42 was recovered by the Police Department.
The full time officers worked 44 hours overtime during the month
and the part -time officers worked 158 hours.
Respectfully,
