THE CAYUGA HEIGHTS POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNUAL REPORT
1989
This years annual report is dedicated to Mrs. Barbara C. potter
who was the Police Clerk for the Cayuga Heights police Department
from January 1968 until her retirement in June 19g9. "Barb"
served as Police Clerk and was ca11ed upon at times to serve as
the Department matron. she was the person the public would
first come in contact with when they carled by phone or came
j-nto the office. After 27 and one half years of service Mrs.
Potter is enjoying her retirement at her family home in King
Ferry, N.Y. The members of the police Department wish her the
very best in her retirement and trust she will have many years
to enjoy those things she gave up to serve the virlage of cayuga
Heights.

Ivlembers of the Board of TrusteesVillage of Cayuga Heights
I hereby submit the report of the activitj-es of the Cayuga HeightsPolice Department for the year 1999.
1989 has been one of the most active years I can remember. We haveundergone several changes this year as well. This is the first year
we have been fully staffed by full time Police Officers and this hasafforded us the. opportunity to double up on busy shifts and give theofficers more time on the road. Our Police Dispatcher retired after2Li years of service. It was difficult to repllce someone that thecommunity knew by face and voice which gave that extra personaltouch. Our search for a replacement was fortunate in that we wereable to hire someone with previous Police Dispatch experience anda somewhat general knowledge of the area. Jean F. Eaton was hiredJune I,1989 to replace Mrs. Barbara Potter and has been a tremendousasset to the department. Jean is a Dryden native and worked previouslyin an Tnsurance Office and then as a police Clerk for the Viliage ofDryden Police Department. Already she has become accustomed to ourprocedures and has been able to place faces with names and we are sure
cha r^r'i 'l 'l ni rray+ve that same personal touch as lvlrs. Potter dj-d over theyears.
Tl. Police Department has joined the many other Police Agencies acrossthe nation in making the transistion from the standard revolver fj-rearmto the semi-automatic pistol. This transistion took place this pastfal1 with ful1 support of the board and expert firearms training bythe FBI 1oca1Iy and in Albany as well as our own firearms instructbrs.Officer safety was our primary cause for change and the officers madethe transistion very smoothly.
9tt training proglrams have expanded to include video training offeredby the Law Enforcement Satellite Traj-ning Network (LESTN) . ifre CayugaHeights Police Department has joined with lthaca College Safety rr.bSchool of Communications at Ithaca College for a viewing site. Thesevideo training sessions are sponsored by the F.B.I. and the Kansas CityPolice Department. The program plans expansion in 1990 and we wil-lattempt to join in this expansion.
Ogt community is the backbone of the Police Department and we appreciateth9 strong efforts of the Mayor, the Village Board, Village Offilialsand the community in maintaining a quality police Department.
