Superintendent of Public Works PERIOD: April 2014 REPORT BY DEPARTMENT: 1. PUBLIC WORKS a. Street System: Potholes have been patched b. Storm Water System: i. Catch-basins undergo systematic cleaning ii. Creeks are monitored to keep them clear of debris. c. Water System: Water-main project on Triphammer Road has been completed jointly with the City of Ithaca. d. Sewer System: Continued flushing is planned. e. Buildings and Grounds: i. Reconstruction in the Police Department has been completed. ii. Arbor Day Celebration took place at CHES f. Personnel: Wayne Relyea has returned to full duty. g. Safety: i. The New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF) conducted an annual safety survey of the DPW work and storage areas at 123 Sheldon Road. With the exception of two recommendations, which were acted on immediately, areas were found to meet OSHA standards. The department was praised for its diligence in development of an effective safety program. ii. A Safety Action Plan has been developed and is followed at the department with annual refresher training focused on areas which pose the greatest risk. The next training is scheduled on May 29, 2014; it will include Roadway Worker Safety, Back Safety, and General Safety Awareness.
