HomeMy WebLinkAbout4-2014 Monthly Board Letter.pdf May 7, 2014 To: The Honorable Mayor Supron Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Re: Report of the Police Department for April, 2014 In the month of March the police department received 331 calls for service. In addition to these calls, 118 uniform traffic tickets were issued and 12 parking violations were cited. A breakdown of the calls for service is as follows: 4 felony complaints of burglary were reported. Of these 4 incidents 2 were found to be forced entry. Residents stated that access had been gained to their home through damage to a locked door or window. In the 2 remaining incidents residents stated that their homes were either unlocked or a key was easily accessed. Reported Items including jewelry, computer related items, cash money, and prescription medicine. There is a suspect and the investigation is continuing. 8 misdemeanor incidents were handled including 2 for theft, 2 for fraud, and 4 for vehicle and traffic. Both of the theft complaints were of larceny from a motor vehicle. Residents reported that their unlocked vehicles had been entered and items including loose change, music cds and prescription medication had been taken. There are no suspects in these cases and the investigations are ongoing. The 2 complaints of fraud consisted of residents receiving suspicious phone calls requesting information regarding bank account and tax informati on. Officers attempted to make contact with the callers however the numbers shown on caller ID came back not in service. No exchange of money or personal information occurred. 4 traffic stops led to 3 misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated, 2 misdemeanor charges for DWI- Driving with blood alcohol .08 of 1% or higher, 1 misdemeanor charge of DWI-driving with blood alcohol .18 of 1% or higher, 3-aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd, and 1 driving while registration suspended or revoked. 1 penal law violation for Harassment was reported. The complainant stated that an acquaintance had sent him numerous threating text messages while he was at a location in the Village. The suspect was contacted and warned not to contact the complainant any further or harassment charges would be filed. 1 report local law violation Noise-Party/Social Event of Gathering occurred. A complaint of loud music was made. After investigation it was found that a local fraternity was having an unregistered party at their house. Contact was made with the house president and he was cited for charges of the Local Law Noise Violation. There were 5 Motor vehicle accidents investigated, none involving deer. No other incidents were reported involving deer. In summary, 6 persons were arrested and the following 10 charges were filed: 2-DWI 1st Offense, 2-Operating a Motor Vehicle with .08 of 1% of alcohol in the blood, 1-Aggravated DWI Operating a Motor Vehicle with .18 of 1% of alcohol in the blood, 3-Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a MV 3rd, 1-Local Law-Noise/Party Social Event or Gathering and 1-Execution of a Bench Warrant. Over the course of this month police department members took part in the following trainings and events: The first week in April officers Chad Lansing and James Landon attended Basic Investigative Photography Training. On the 23rd part-time officers completed annual spring firearms qualifications while full time officers completed their qualifications on the 29th. On the 25th, Sergeant Jerry Wright completed the Translator/Interpreter Program facilitated by the Cornell University Public Service Center. The full time officers worked a total of 41.5 hours of overtime and the part time officers worked a total of 230 hours. Sincerely, Chief James Steinmetz
