Re: Report of the Police Department for August 2012
During the month of August there were 307 complaints reported to the police department. There
were also 2 motor vehicle accidents investigated. There were 79 traffic tickets issued and 17
parking tickets written.
There was 1 felony incident reported in the month of August for aggravated unlicensed operation
of a vehicle. This was part of a(misdemeanor) DWI arrest in which the driver was arraigned on
charges the same night.
There were 12 misdemeanors reported: 9 for criminal mischief, 1 for larceny, 1 for endangering
the welfare of a child, as well as the DWI incident listed above.Nine of the criminal mischief
incidents were residents reporting their mailboxes had been damaged during the night. There are
no suspects as of this time. The other criminal mischief incident was graffiti that had been spray
painted on a bus stop in A lot of Cornell campus. There are no suspects in this case and the
graffiti has been cleaned up. The larceny was a report of people having not received their
delivered copies of the Ithaca Journal. The manager reported the suspect was a disgruntled
employee looking to get someone else in trouble. A memo was posted to keep an eye out for this
person, but he had not been seen in the area. The endangering the welfare of a child report was
part of a domestic incident between a father and his children. 'the father was initially arraigned
in court and is awaiting further court proceedings.
The only violation reported in August was part of the domestic incident regarding the father and
children. The father was also charged with harassment.
There were 12 local law violations reported: 6 for noise,4 for dog control, and 2 for being in the
park after hours. All were handled by the officer on duty, without incident.
'There were 8 andsts made in the month of August: 1 for DWI and AUO 1 st, 1 for endangering
the welfare of a child and harassment, 1 for dog control, I for noise, and 4 for being in the park
after hours.
There was 1 reported deer incident and no reported accidents involving deer.
In August, Chief Steinmetz and Officer Manning attended the Law Enforcement Active Shooter
Emergency Response Training in Oriskany,NY. Officer Lanning and James Conlon participated
in the Community Corners block party where they sat at the DARE/Law Enforcement table to
answer questions and provide information. There were also a few personnel changes that
occurred. David Amaro, who had previously worked for IPD, was hired as a full time patrol
officer. Officer Jerry Wright was promoted to Sergeant. And finally, Lisa Withrow resigned her
position as police clerk due to a move out of state. The clerk position has been posted and will be
filled after interviews are conducted.
During the ont of August,the full time officers worked 70.5 hours of overtime and the part
time off
