Home My WebLink About9-9-12 Board Report Cover Letter.pdfOctober 9, 2012 To: The Honorable Kate Supron Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Re: Report of the Police Department for September 2012 During the month of September there were 271 calls for service reported to the Cayuga Heights Police Department, including 6 motor vehicle accidents. There were 103 traffic tickets issued and 14 parking tickets written. There were 6 arrests made during the month of September. There were 3 felony incidents which took place. 1 arrest for assault was made stemming from an investigation of a domestic dispute that occurred in August. In addition, 2 burglaries were reported. One was a complaint of a stolen jewelry box containing various costume and valuable jewelry. The exterior of the home was in the process of being painted when the items were said to have gone missing. This case is still being investigated. The se cond burglary complaint was made by an elderly woman who stated that several of her belongings were taken out of her room by the cleaning staff at the residential facility where she lives. Upon investigation the items were found and it was noted that the complainant suffers from dementia. A total of 5 misdemeanors were reported including 3 incidents of larceny and 2 incidents of fraud. Of the larceny complaints, one involves the investigation of a stolen mailbox which remains ongoing. Another involves a missing street sign at Highland and Kline roads. There are no leads in either case. The third report of theft is of several items being taken from a construction site at a residence. This is still being investigated. The first fraud complaint was a report of an internet scam. A resident solicited employment via Craig’s list and was contacted by a fraudulent business claiming to be sending a package by mail. The resident has been advised to contact this department upon any further information. The second incident of fraud involved a person sending emails to a resident, requesting funds to in turn receive lottery winnings. The suspect (unknown) set a specific time and date to retrieve these funds. A CHPD officer stood watch during that time; however no suspicious activity took place. 8 violations were reported during the month of September. Of these, 5 local laws were violated due to noise complaints. 3 of the noise complaints were found to be caused by fraternity parties; 2 at Sigma Chi and 1 at Tau Epsilon Phi. The remaining noise complaints consisted of a large family gathering and report of loud music coming from a single family home. These complaints were unfounded. Next, there were 2 violations of local laws for unleashed dogs, 1 report of trespass and 2 reports of fireworks. A total of 5 local law arrests were made, 3 for noise violations and 2 for dog control violations. There were 3 reported incidents involving deer. 1 occurred as an MVA, another involved a small deer stuck in a resident’s fence and the last was involving a resident’s dog. Full-time officers worked a total of 68.5 hours overtime and the part-time officers worked a total of 146 hours. The Department conducted its annual firearms qualification for long guns this month. In addition the officers reviewed the Department’s Emergency Vehicle Operations Policy and Procedure. It was a good reminder of the risks and liabilities the officers face while handling daily incidents. The Department also welcomed its new police clerk, Jaclyn D. Carr. Jackie brings 6 years of experience from the Village of Dryden with her, 3 as assistant village clerk and 3 as po lice clerk. She will be a great fit for our Department and Village.
