There were 29 calls in the Village of Cayuga Heights, 9 calls in the Town of Ithaca and 4 mutual aid requests. We had 21 EMS runs and 21 fire calls. In the middle of the month we responded to a call where an individual lacerated his arm causing an arterial bleed. Arriving units held direct pressure on the injury and slowed the bleeding. The patient was transported to the hospital with rescue personnel on board the ambulance. The patient was stabilized and his arm was saved. June trainings were pretty routine. Early in the month we did a wild land firefighting refresher. We went through our brush fire equipment and made sure that it was all in service. We did an EMS training on allergic reactions that was well attended. At the end of the month we took delivery of our new air packs. Tyler Fire Equipment came to the station and did training with about half of our members in attendance. We covered the new packs and basic maintenance procedures. We will hold two more trainings to get the rest of our member's up to speed, one at the end of July and one in late August. We plan to put the new pack in service after the training at the end of July. During our annual ladder testing L231 was taken out of service due to leaking hydraulic lift on the ladder. It has been sent out for service on the O ring and will likely be back the first week in July. All of our ground ladders passed the annual testing. Hose testing will be done some time in July or August. We have an open bunker room at this time that we are hoping to fill in August. We have had a couple of the members who are currently summer bunking express interest in the room. One of them has been living in his fraternity house and told me that he really enjoys how clean and quite the bunker area is compared to a frat house. The summer has been steady but our members are handling the load well. Sincerely, George Tamborelle Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent
