Boyce E-mail:tboyce@cayuga-heights.ny.us•Fax:(607) 257-3474 Chief of Police February 6,2012 To: The Honorable Mayor Supron Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Re: Report of the Police Department for January 2012 During the month of January, there were 254 complaints reported to the police department.There were also 5 motor vehicle accidents investigated.There were 83 traffic tickets issued and 10 parking tickets written. There were 2 felony incidents reported in the month of January, one for burglary and one for criminal mischief. The burglary was a resident reporting they had an item stolen from their home at some point. There are no suspects and the investigation is still in progress. The criminal mischief incident involved a suspect who had decided to break the windows at the Village Hall and also throw a brick through the windshield of patrol car. The suspect was arrested and has appeared in court. There were 10 misdemeanors reported: 6 for larceny,2 for fraud,and 2 for DWI. Four of the larcenies were reports that an unknown person entered vehicles and stole personal items from the victims. The suspect has not been identified. One of the larcenies was a report from a resident who had their mail sifted through and money stolen from an envelope. There are no suspects in this case. The last larceny was reported from a business. A manager reported money being stolen from a safe. After an investigation,the suspect who had been stealing money was identified,arrested,and has appeared in court. There were 12 violations reported in the month of January: 9 for disorderly conduct and 3 for unlawful trespassing. Eight of the nine disorderly conduct incidents were noise related calls. Each one was handled appropriately and no further incidents had occurred. The other disorderly conduct incident was reported Four a resident who stated he was having an argument with his girlfriend's mother. A few officers responded and handled the simation without incident. The first trespassing complaint was reported from Cornell PD. They asked for an officer to respond with them to a location where they found a door unlocked and an unknown female sleeping inside. Upon investigating, the female was cooperative and did have Permission to be there. Another trespassing incident was reported from staff at Kendal who stated an elderly gentleman who does not live there, had been wandering around the building for a little while. They did not have any issues with the man,but wanted to report it in the event of something happening. The last trespassing incident was a report from a resident who stated her unlocked vehicle had been rifled through during the night,though nothing had been taken.There are no suspects. In the month of January,no accidents or incidents involving a deer have been reported. During the month of January, all officers attended a multi-agency wide reality based training which took place in the old Challenge building in the city of Ithaca. Also, Officer Lanning attended Drug Interdiction Training in Endicott as well as a DARE curriculum update training class. During the month of February, the Fill time officers worked a total of 68 hours of overtime and the part time officers worked a total of 158.5 hours.
