HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-2012 Monthly Board Letter.pdf December 5, 2012 To: The Honorable Mayor Supron Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Re: Report of the Police Department for November, 2012 In the month of November the police department received 289 calls for service. In addition to these calls, 97 uniform traffic tickets were issued and 5 parking tickets were written. A breakdown of the calls for service is as follows: The department received 3 felony complaints including 1 for burglary and 2 for grand larceny. The burglary complaint was reported to have occurred overnight with forced entry in which 2 computer related items were claimed to be missing. The two incidents of grand larceny both occurred at Kendal of Ithaca. Two residents have reported that a large quantity of valuable silverware has been taken from their homes. Investigations of these 3 complaints are ongoing and there are no leads at this time. There were 5 calls for misdemeanors reported: a complaint of petit larceny involved a resident having reported several parcels being taken from his porch after delivery. The complainant only wished to have the report on file for claims purposes. 2 incidents of scheme to defraud included fraudulent checks being received through Craig’s list purchases. Neither have leads. A DWI arrest was executed after investigation of a traffic stop in which tickets for uninspected motor vehicle and failure to signal for a turn were also issued. Lastly a complaint of issuing a bad check was received. The suspect was contacted through a department letter and in turn the subject responded to the department to submit payment of the check. The business manager came to CHPD to retrieve the payment and express his sincere gratitude of the department’s swift and timely recovery of restitution. A single penal law violation was reported and an arrest was made. After the investigation of a domestic dispute a subject was charged with harassment 2nd / physical contact. There were also 8 calls for Local Law violations investigated: 3 of noise complaints due to loud music. 1 of these complaints ended with a fraternity being cited while hosting a party. The remaining 2 noise complaints as well as a shots fired complaint were unfounded and thought to be hunters in the distance and a car alarm. A dog complaint was made by a resident who was approached by two aggressive dogs while out walking his own dog. The owner of the dogs was contacted and necessary advice was rendered. Lastly, 2 subjects were cited for being in the park after hours. In summary there were 7 people arrests with a total of 8 charges: 1 for Harassment 2nd, 2 for LL- in the park after hours, 1 for LL –noise/disorderly conduct and 2 Vehicle and traffic arrests including 2 DWI charges and 1 aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. There were 8 Motor vehicle accidents investigated, 4 of which were involving deer. There were 7 additional incidents in which deer were involved. Over the course of this month, officers conducted 5 STOP DWI patrols and 2 S.T.E.P Grant patrols, which resulted in a DWI arrest and the issuing of numerous traffic tickets for violations of NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law. The full time officers worked a total of 24 hours of overtime and the part time officers worked a total of 127 hours. Sincerely, Chief James Steinmetz
