Cross, Engineer Village of Cayuga Heights MARCHAM HALL 836 HANSHAW ROAD ITHACA, NEW YORK 14850 (607) 257-1238 fax (607) 257-4910 April 11, 2012 Honorable Kate Supron Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Monthly Report – March, 2012 We ran at a steady pace in the month of March and ended up running 53 calls for the month. There were 26 calls in the Village of Cayuga Heights, 19 calls in the Town of Ithaca and 8 mutual aid requests. We had 39 EMS runs and 14 fire calls. Early in the month the members of our department assisted in a search for a missing elderly woman. We had 10 members participate in the search over two days. On St. Patrick’s Day we were requested mutual aid to assist the Slaterville Fire Department at the scene of a structure fire. Cayuga Heights and Ithaca fire fighters assisted the on scene departments and quickly suppressed the fire and returned to service. There were several trainings at the station through the month of March. We held our first two spring recruit classes last month. We have a class of six new members. It is nice to have a smaller group for this class. We get more time when we break them into small groups for more one on one time. They seem to be catching on and are fitting in well at the station. We did our normal truck and engine company operations trainings. We utilized the training facility at the mall twice last month for FAST training and large area search training. We have three firefighters in the NYS Firefighter 1 class at this time. We are busy planning for the events on April 21st. We will do the E202 dedication at 1:00 in the afternoon at the fire station. Many of Josh Weismann’s relatives are coming to town for the dedication and banquet. We asked local department’s to limit the number of firefighters to five from each of agency so we are not overwhelmed at the station. The dedication is scheduled to run for an hour from 1:00 to 2:00 with a short reception to follow. The banquet is scheduled to start at 6:00 at the Country Club of Ithaca. It is shaping up to be larger than past years as many former members are coming to town for both events. We are looking forward to this day of celebration. We are already taking calls at the station from people wanting yard sale pickups. This event has become something local residents start planning for each year. The community support of this event is fantastic. We are holding it a week earlier this year and we are hoping that this increases some of our donations from college students leaving the area. Things at the station are going well. All of the bunker rooms are full at this time. We have two members who are planning to bunk over the summer because they are staying in town to do research at Cornell. We always like to have extra help in the summer at the station when many of our members are away. It is a very busy time at the station and we look forward to things slowing down at the end of May. As always we are thankful for the support of the Trustees. Sincerely, George Tamborelle Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent
