HomeMy WebLinkAboutC Stein.PDFStatement by t3atherine Stpin 11 Spruc;e Lane Village Eoard Meeting - March 14, 201 1 I live in C.H. but I can't be there tonight. I have spoken at a few meeting$, and submitted written statements to express my horror at the idea of killing deer in the village and the negative impact it will have on my children. lwas raised, and have raised my children to respect animal life and the beaut,y of nature. I grew up in lthaca, graduated from Ithaca High School and got my undergraduate degree from Cornell. After some years away, I returned to the lthaca area to buy a home hr:re. I bought my home 2 and 1/2 years ago before I had any awareness that an effort to kill the deer would soon take place here in 0.H. lwould have bought a home elsewhere had I known what was being considered. I understand tlhat killing by net-and-bolt can take place anywhere. I DO NOII want this to be done anywhere, and certainly not near my house. This ugly prospect of killing the deer, is completely irrationail when this has been proven ineffective in other communities, and when there are less invasive methods to deal with this issue, such as fencing, which are not even being considered. Tlre action of the trustees will divide and taint the village fclr years to come for many of the residents of Cayuga Heights, as well as for the larger community of which it is a part, whether or not the trustees acknowledge the web of social and economic connections within the lthaca area.
