VII.LAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS
PETITION OPPOSING THE PROPOSED FENCE ORDNANCE
Aftached you will find the cunent results of our petition on the proposed fence ordinance. This packet
consists of 34 pages, and includes the signatures and addresses of 352 residents of the Mllage of Cayuga
Heights. This petition asks that the Board retain the present fence ordinance as is.
These signatures were obtained by visiting each home and discussing the issue with the residents.
\Ab recognize that the.re is an advantage to an individual property ownerwho wishes to enclose hisyard
with tallfences to exclude the deer. Horever, this is more than ofiset by the follorving three disadmnt4es
to the village ets a whokl:
1) The allowance of tall fences on any prop€rty line (and the ftont yard exclosures), will drastically
change the op,sn charar:ter of our village, thereby eliminating the "park-like atmosphere" that we allhave
enjoyed. lf a property line fence has a negative visual impact on an adjacent propefi, this could easily lead
to a larsuit agpinst the Mllage. This issue has been raised by a number of residents.
2) The burden of deer damage will not be lessened, it will only be shifted to adjacent neighbors.
3) lf more property is fenced, the deerwill be in the roads a greater percentage of the time, thereby
increasing the number of cardeer accidents.
lf you have any questions about this petition, please call me at (-69.7).?.9J:_ff19...

Village Board Meeting, April 11, 2011
Public Hearing re: proposed fence ordinance
The petition Ron and I are presenting is supported by 352 residents including two former mayors and
five former trustees. The total number of signatures was limited only by people not being home on
weekends, being away for the winter and the early dusk of winter afternoons, There could have easily
been many more.
These 352 residents are abroad cross-section ofthe village and representanSSYo success rate---a
pattern than can be extrapolated to the village as a whole. One can only conclude that the
overwhelming majority of village residents are emphatically opposed to changing our fence
ordinance and that they look to this board to safeguard their interests in keeping a pleasant and
neighborly village.
Please consider their concerns.
