Subject:From the DEER, please give us an option...
Hi, (Dec. 10, 2010)
If you please, please “TRAP” the excess deer from Cayuga Heights (I know this is possible),
release them to other lands / landowners in Tompkins County who pre-sign up to accept one / two or more deer
to be released onto their private owned property. The DEC cannot be against this?
The deer will have to adapt – they are good at that.
They may not make it in their new surroundings, BUT they will have a 2nd chance.
This has to be a better option than a bullet (bolt) in the head with zero chance of survival.
The Heights will have less deer.
Tompkins County property owners only who are willing (maybe include State Land) will “adopt”-A-Deer.
Costs: Deer cages (maybe Cornell will loan some to you?) Else, buy some-to be used year after year as the need arises.
Costs: Someone to bait & check & transport the deer to their new homes in the county.
Costs: Far less than sterilization/killing(culling).
+Plus: Move the deer cages/traps around – Use where ever the biggest concentration is.
+Plus: I think the public will go for this? This is a way to make everyone happy including the deer!
Depends on someone asking for ‘Deer Drop – off points with Tompkins County – I’ll take a couple ‘transplants!’.
Please give them a 2nd chance – I feel it’s a far better solution than what is currently in store for them.
Please give the deer a chance to live and survive in the wild, as that is where they belong.
