HomeMy WebLinkAboutMaxwell - Comment on DEIS Cayuga Heights' Deer Management Plan.pdf1 Tayo Johnson From:Lorraine E Maxwell <lorraine.maxwell@cornell.edu> Sent:Thursday, December 16, 2010 11:41 AM To:Kate Supron; Mary Mills Subject:Comment on DEIS Cayuga Heights' Deer Management Plan Dear Mayor Supron: I am writing to express my concern and dismay over the “Deer Management Plan” being considered by your administration. It is not a deer management plan; it is a deer killing plan. I have lived in Ithaca for 17 years and have learned to manage my life related to local wildlife. It might be unfortunate that I can’t plant tulips because the deer will eat them but the solution to that problem is not to kill the animals. I have learned how to drive to avoid deer and use fencing or other means to protect my garden. Killing should never be the answer to a “management” issue. I urge you to allow appropriate fencing instead of killing animals. Your plan is inhumane and sends the wrong message to our children and our community. Please, reconsider. Sincerely, Lorraine E.
